I ordered a new 12cell Li Ion battery for my old HP laptop as the other one was dead and it arrived today

Used it for an hour and its used 25%
My old battery would have died after 35 minutes

Just ordered a 2m Firewire 800 > Firewire 400 cable on the gamble that it will let me use my RME Fireface 400 soundcard with my alum. 20" iMac. Support thread on the RME forums have conflicting posts. Some people claim it works for them while an equal number claim that it doesn't.

It's costing $30 delivered though. It's just a friggin Firewire cable. It should only be $5. Grrrrr.

You should be fine using Firewire 800 -> 400. Will just get reduced speed (400 speed) and no power over the firewire cable.

I can get the Fireface to communicate with the iMac now but only on the innermost Firewire port and I have to power it from the external power supply. But I get the occasional audio dropout - tried watching an AVI and sound occasionally cut out. So still not perfect. I've yet to try and record something or use it with a music sequencer. But at least the FF is not a useless paperweight anymore.

My FA66's been very friggin noisey since the day I bought it... Hoping this fixes it and it's just a shithouse firewire chipset on my laptop or something like that...

Mate had the same problem with his FW audio interface on his laptop a few years ago...

Knowing my luck the PCMCIA port on mine won't be any better

fan vent on the back of that is a bit cheap and nasty, but nothing a pair of tin snips and a replacement wire fan grille wouldn't fix.

Might as well throw my Xbox spend in here. I attempted to get in on the $278 sale at Big W, but missed out. Here's what happened next.

- Xbox 360 Arcade: $349
- GTAIV: $14 out of my pocket, the rest in gift cards.
- Forza 2: $29
- Test Drive Unlimited: $20
- "Premier Pack" which netted me a second wireless controller, Perfect Dark, omgfaceplate, and some other worthless crap: $100. (This was very old stock at JB, I think it actually came out before the console did, lol)
- Broken 20GB Xbox HDD from ebay: $42
- New 2.5" 120GB HDD (to be firmware hacked and put in above enclosure): $65

Total spend: $619. Fuck you Big W, look what you've done. Pretty happy with the value I got though. Take that, Elite Pack.

Bought some hyperglides for my logi G7 as it started clicking erratically and need to open it up to have a look (mouse feet cover the screws), also got a set for the razer lachesis which i'll probably be getting if the G7 is borked.

been holding out on going a wired mouse for a long time, my desk layout makes it a pain to have a wired mouse and the G7 was the best gaming/wireless compromise.

You tryin' ta burst my bubble homez? The recent price drops were Aus only, so I doubt those bargains will be hitting our shores any time soon.

When they release an Xbox with 120GB HDD, 2 wireless controllers, four worthy games and a FACEPLATE for $620 AUD, I'll consider my bargain bettered.

my advice as an ex laptop bag company employee - never buy anything larger than 15" (15.4 is basically 15 btw)

you'll regret it.. you can always plug it into a 30" screen.. or a prpjector.. and make it 3 metres

Ah really?? My Dell's got a 17" screen, had it for a few years with no regrets (it's always a bit cumbersome at the airport though)

I had a 17" Powerbook, then got a 13" MacBook... the 17" was a little too big, and the 13" is a touch too small. I should have bought a 15" MacBook Pro.

So it only hums when you’re plugged into the wall? It’s a grounding problem, it’s very common and the fix is easy. Search the MP&T forum for numerous threads on it.

LOL, I love it when people use that argument for the iPhone or any Apple products. Sure, judge a piece of electronic equipment by an aspect which has absolutely nothing to do with any of the practical uses for the item.

For the record, I'm not hating on Apple. I would love an iPhone/MacBook Pro. Just not going to pay for one.

Ideally I would've liked an iPhone, but it wasn't worth while paying out the remainder of my contract..

I think the N95's a better phone, but there's things that the iPhone does better that I'm interested in, the MP3 player and Enterprise support mainly...

Not quick enough specially in the case of 2.5" HDs. I thought perpendicular writing tech would give us 1TB 2.5"ers by now. :'(

Who the hell buys 500GB these days?

I just ordered a Canopus ADVC110 video capture thingy from the US so I can finally transfer my VHS collection to DVD and bin them. I could already do it for PAL sources using a video camera's Firewire passthrough but I have a fair few NTSC tapes to convert as well.
