!Nub-Mixing Questions!
Hey everyone

After 3 weeks of annoying my neighbours & household.......i can finally beat match ! .......most of the time lol

But alas i have some more questions about mixing (DNB)

-when making a transition to the new track, what part of the new track do u usually bring in first?
-mid with a touch of high? bass line?

- how long should you let the tracks overlap ?
- a long time ?

-is it important to keep the new song within the structure of the old song ? ie. if song one drops after "x" amount of bars, should you make sure when you mix in the second track it also drops after "x" amount of bars?
-or is it ok to say for example, wait for a breakdown, then mix in a song with a longer intro and go from there (ie, if you were mixing two songs, by the time song 1 should have dropped (mixing this song out), you are only half way through song 2 intro (mixing this one in)?

-also, is there any easy way to cue up a record ?
-i find it troublesome finding particular sections of music on the record without playing it for a while (like it would take me a while to find the first bar of the chorus for example)
-i can see breakdowns on the vinyl........but not much else

All replies are appreciated !

umm

first of all blending ur bass would be easiest way to mix two tracks together.
watch ur levels and work the eq's.
Dosen't matter on the amount of time tracks overlap, so long as it's blending it'll be fine.
i have never touched dnb so don't hold me to it tho!

if u can keep it in structure do i, if not don't worry to much just keep it going but make sure it's sounds good. You don't want an over dose of melody's.

meh i'm drunk, i'll pick this up when i sober up tomorrow or let soem one else take over!

usually highs, but there's no rules... do whatever works.

as long as you want to.... layering is something that's done a lot in tech an minimal where you may be mixing 2 or more tracks all the time.

not really.

mostly you can just cue from the start while your learning to DJ and your music still.... also putting marker stickers on your records is something that a lot of scratch DJ's do to help them cue in an instant.

just cue the new track from the 2nd drop of what your playing, blend intro, drop the new track on the breakdown from the intro into the first drop.. once you get that down start practising longer blends and faster mixing.

Yeah thats what i pretty much end up doing anyway, playing one track, then by the time i have beatmatched the 2nd track and started to think about what im going to do, it is near the 2nd change in the music anyway lol

Also is it ok to just beatmatch using only the pitch fader? or is nudging an essential skill?

i find if i release it on beat then a nudge is usually too drastic to beatmatch with ? or am i missing something?

I guess ill just spend all day tomorrow mixing aswell

you'll eventually get the jedi powers to be able to nudge subtly enough to not notice it....

if you're beatmatching well in 3 weeks thats a good start..

just keep mixing every day for the next year and a half and then everything else will just start falling into place

Be diffrent and dont follow rules. It makes you sound diffrent AS LONG AS IT SOUNDS GOOD. You doing really really well to be able to beat match within 3 weeks every one i spoken to is only just consitenly beat matching at about 8 months.

Yeh knowing the whole structure of songs is a must for DJs.

Most genre of music have a formula, for example house music, it has, but not always, a 30 secs intro then the music starts flowing.
