Breakfest 2008 - All you true breaks fans should come to Perth!!!

So Breakfest is on boxing day every year at the Belvoir Ampitheatre...

No artists announced yet but last year saw the Plumps, Stantons, Lee Coombs and heaps more so no doubt this year will rock too!

Why dont you over-easters get your shit together now and organise a road trip to Perth!!?? It'll be worth it! Some of you can crash on my couches*.

*must be hawt.

I have been totally keen since i first heard of it, but alas perth is quite far from ye olde sydney. I know i should go to support breaks, but we ususally get same dj's on the tours over here anyway.

My birthday is on the 27th so really should go celebrate it early there.

it looks like a hill but it has grass levels/steps all the way down so falling is kept to a minimum!

would be wicked to head over the west side for a change of scenery.

as for the party i fear the "break"fest will actually be an "electro"fest in disguise.

the Sav almost forced me to stay 2 years ago when I played a Desti gig in Perth, would have done it to but the missus family would kill me if I dont attend their xmas!

Definitely keen - love that "ampitheatre" look of the crowd / stage

I've fallen down the steps at Belvoir. And up them.
And I always end up with bruised knees/legs after I've been. The steps are too big for my little legs so I have to kind of kneel on the step above and swing myself up.

Looking at those photos I'm excited all over again!!
Bring on Breakfest day

(that reminds me, better book my leave now)

Haha I've seen people fall down there. I almost fell down the stairs once too. Massive steps + being drunk = hurts + lols.

Decry - last year was the first "break" fest in a couple of years. The two years before that it was definitely "Electro" fest.

Lisey - it was 45 degrees in the city - Ollies thermometer at his place in the swan just across the way from belvoir recorded 49 degrees at 2pm!!!! It was a very unbearable day. Jhz had gotten off the plane the night before and was feeling a bit under the weather then had to put up with sub 50 degree heat for the day on no sleep and jet lag .

Oh poor darling - I hope you picked him up from the airport in a wahmbulance and on the way to the gig pulled into a drive-thru for a McFail and large french cries!

haha yeah but I love the heat, last year was hot but I just ate shitloads of icey poles (the red ones were the best!)

I would have guessed last year the comfort level/temperature was about 50 -55 in the direct sun around 3pm with the crowd factor playing in
I think Perth recored 47 at Pearce Air base that day, so the bowl would have been around 50.

I remember going into one of the toilets (portable) and it was unbareable - had to be at least 60 in the ones in the direct sunlight.

Last year was a very cool day none the less

I've always been one to consider Breakfest as my favourite party of the summer festivals. Its the day after Christmas, there's no reason not to be in a good mood.

I guess if i wanted to put my hat on, some there's been points over the years where it hasn't been true "breaks" *note Z-Trip 06, but I think his set was perfectly paced and programmed for a mid afternoon set. Got everyone up and dancing early I thought.

Warnings for those Breakfest virgins (interstaters) though:
The stairs are quite the challenge at times
You'll inhale about 40 litres of dust and gurn sweat (well in the last couple of years the shirts off crowd seem to creep in a little more)
The venue is a long way from anywhere relative (so transport is an issue unless prearranged)
And finally
You'll head back home and be left wanting at every gig you attend throughout the year as there is IMO no festival like it in Australia for feel good, fun times and party atmosphere. Especially come 8 - 9 when the headlining acts come on and the whole bowl is packed and jumping about in unison

Fuck the warnings! The heat is as bearable (or unbearable) as you want to make it! There is plenty of parking at belvoir and the trip is usually spent with your favourite breaks CD cranked up the the max on your stereo (plus shitloads of busses out that way too). There are big stairs and little stairs for people with little legs!

Party hearty!! It's all about the breaks!

The warnings were more for my benefit
So I dont have to hear more whinging this year about the heat, how hard it was to go and get drinks in the heat right up the stairs, repeat how hot it is, repeat how far it is up to the bar, repeat heat cry.....

I love last year, quickest way to drop 5kgs, just let the sun melt it off you

As said, if you are organised (sun screen, dress for the heat not a fashion parade) you won't even notice the heat etc

Still a party if you ask me......not a day for the chinstokers.....

im not too embarrassed to admit i fanned myself with a broken off piece of a UDL carton last year to try and stay cool ....well worth it!!!!

after attending 5 breakfests i would have to say there is no greater vibe than what is in and around that ampitheatre every boxing day...

kudos lise for giving this day the recognition it deserves...hopefully we'll get to see you playing there this year!

and hopefully a handful of you east siders can venture over to check it out!

I went to my first one a cpl of years ago as my g/fs parent moved to Perf from Adelame,.. now we go EVERY year and catch up with the familly and some really great new friends weve made along the way.

BELVOIR is absolutely like nothing else I have witnessed ever in my life.... to see the whole thing going mental to Fasten Your Seatbelts was almost a little un nerving, the whole human ants nest thing standing half way up looking down... Wikid

Lat year was fucking ace, loads and loads of decent breaks got played!

Im there already and looking forward to it, we actually stayed alive long enough to hit Ambar afterwards for an "impromptu" set from Groovediggerz...6 am monged in Perth anyone?

See you all in December again

Hrmmmmmm
Stantons have just announced their Australia tour for the Sessions 3 album begins Nov 20.

Considering they are the biggest thing in breaks at the moment, could we see them back for Breakfest two years running?
Is six months out too soon to start the rumour mill?
Krafty and A Skillz please boomtick - i am sure i will be flamed for that but....... i would love to see that - not that it will ever happen again

Would really like to see them do the Dex n Fx show - last 3 times I have seem them its been scheduled to be them both playng but never eventuates

waaa waaaa, too hot. At least its guaranteed sun and ace weather. Every festival over here is on the brink due to the naff rain and mud. It seems to be holding out this year tho, it was DRY at Glasto!!

I think Breakfastaz will be headlining. I'm pretty sure that they are here over the NY period.

Krafty Kuts would be a good bet also. Not too fussed either way on him... went to see him at the Becks bar earlier this year and it was fun. He would be fun for Breakfest too, just not closing set, I didnt really enjoy his closing set at Breakfest in 2005.
