Funf Social is proud to present two fast emerging talents in Axel Boman and Wbeeza Live
Axel is in fact the Swedish word for shoulder, but born and bred Stockholmer Mr. Boman could just as easily have been named Rumpa, the Swedish word for ass, since most of his life has been dedicated to moving just that body part. It was around 1992 that Axel’s ass started dragging the confused youngster into all sorts of weird situations – dodgy warehouses, blooming fields, sweaty basements – just about any place that had a nice sound system and someone pumping a fat bassline through it. With his older brother already being a collector of the latest techno and house records, Axel started keeping a strict diet of fresh beats which has kept him alive and kicking ever since.
Building a reputation for himself in the small but very friendly Stockholm club scene, he was soon acknowledged as one of Sweden’s most skillful and best looking dj dudes. Naturally, production activity followed shortly.
Working out of small studios in his hometown as well as in Gothenburg (where Axel took his master degree in fine art), tracks like the underground hit “Arcimboldo” on Ourvision Recordings soon landed in the crates of connoisseurs like DJ Koze, Magda and Seth Troxler. His sounds is raw, playful and drenched in oceans of soul – just the kind of stuff the dancefloor’s of today are longing for.
2010 was the big breakthrough year for Axel and his ass, with the epic screw house anthem “Purple Drank” being released on DJ Koze’s new Pampa Records imprint, going off to London to participate in the Red Bull Music Academy and starting up his own label Studio Barnhus together with Petter (Border Community) and local idiot Kornél Kovacs. 2011 will see Axel releasing a lot of new material and remixes on labels like Permanent Vacation, Moodmusic, Glass Table, Hypercolour, Tartelet and of course Studio Barnhus. Cheers!
Wbeeza (pronounced double-u-beeza) is 25 year old Warren Brown from Bermondsey, South London.
Wbeeza's unique sound takes in the history and lineage of 20 years of house music and techno with a fresh twist which comes from growing up and living in Peckham, South London. His productions have a striking balance of jacking basement vibes with swinging jazz grooves and tough acid tinges. Wbeeza's killer live set is particularly refined, balancing the power of motorized techno with organic rolling polyrhythms, bringing some much-needed freshness to the capital's dance music scene. When playing live, Wbeeza is generally not mixing tracks. Instead he is creating music on the fly from beats and pieces to create a largely improvised performance that is different every night. Crowds at Free Rotation festival, secretsundaze, Tape Club and Watergate in Berlin have already been rocked by his set.
"'SE15' that's me" says Wbeeza, who was born and raised in Peckham South London and now has his studio in Greenwich, South London.
"Being the youngest to 6 bros and 3 sisters I was influenced by a broad range of music from the moment I left the womb, so that shit was flowing! I started toying with music from the age of 14, writing lyrics in them days, and well known for beat boxing!". I used to kick some heavy weight title beats with a couple of friends, don't ask me how but yeah I did it, although singing was never my forte. Anyway, at the age of 16 I was encouraged to take up music where I found my true passion.
Signed to Guy McCreery's Third Ear Recordings, which has long been forging by the link between London and Detroit through their ongoing and highly regarded Detroit Beatdown series, Wbeeza has found the perfect home for his sound. Garnering international acclaim, including support from Stacey Pullen, Michel Cleis, Dixon, Ame, Steve Bug, Jus Ed, Levon Vincent, Delano Smith, Mr Scruff, & many many others..."
