THE DEA live (Melbourne: AUSTRALIA)
Call it Voodoo techno? Not anymore, cause John Barker and Richard Sekessan have come back with some tasty flavours of tech-phunk and techno soul. Slowing down from their earlier frantic sounds, the duo have a showcase of new material on the tribal, tech tip after storming performances last year at Summadayze, Two Tribes and Hardware. Prepare for a fun, funky, entertaining extravaganza...

Hmmm - I like that idea... and I don't. Great if you're going for a concept-y approach, but otherwise it does put off some potential buyers...

Digital Primate
Just got this propaganda mail from the inimitable Chris Coe, a.k.a. Digital Primate:

"hi my lovers..

Just released is my new track I done with my dear friend Fiona Ruttelle. It's called
If Nothing Changes, Nothing Changes.

And, up until last week the only person in the world who had a copy was Carl Cox, he has been playing it for some time now and he licensed it to a couple compilations and such like!

Fanks mate!

There are some crackin' remixes provided by Dick "Majik" Johnson, Eric Powell, and Melbourne's own Simon Slieker...

So, to check it you can go to Beatport or DJ Download or Juno or any other one of those portals...

There is even the Accapella so you can have a go at a mix yourself if you like!

love

DP

...so, I'm guess you can trudle along to Beatport or Juno to check this one out from another of Melbs' long-time tech/electro geniuses!

Adam Raisbeck - Soulenoid
Here's another old fave local live act of mine who's continuing to do really interesting things.

Anyone here know Adam Raisbeck?

We worked with him a lot (he was one of the original IF? crew) between 1995-97, when he was playing live and producing as Soulenoid and Whatever Man. His mash-up with David Thrussell (Snog/Black Lung) on the first Zeitgeist compilation was a killer.

Anyway, he's continued doing sounds under the alias of Sense.

Have a gander here:

8-bit

Adam taught me for a bit at Uni. Cool dude. very talented. Not sure what he is doing now. I remember there was this class on synths/drum machines and we had this old Oberheim DM and he just pulls the thing out and whacks in a beat on the fly that would have taken me all day to get near. Awesome stuff.

Ahhh, the other Adam!!

He and I used to be great buds, and we worked together to bring out Biochip C in 1995, then I assisted him with Jammin' Unit a bit later. Played loads of our IF? gigs, 1996-2001, first with his band, Krang, then as 8-Bit.

We lost touch when I moved to Japan. I think he's overseas at the mo'... but don't quote me!!

Game Over: Reset 140
Little Nobody
"Game Over: Reset 140"
(IF? Records)

I put out the Game Over in March, and it was a slow, eclectic, at times dubby/electro reconsideration of beats and breaks, asymmetrical electronic rhythms and squelching, near-acid synths. Sydney's 3D World magazine called it "Head-bending stuff that's well worth investigating."

Anyway, not too long ago (over a vast amount of drinks), one of my mates over here in Tokyo, Yusuke Abe, challenged me to reboot that EP - at 140bpm, with a more up-for-it (albeit open-minded!) techno/house club in mind. Yusuke had a vested interest, as he wanted to DJ a couple of the tracks out, but thus Reset 140 was born.

The outcome is obviously faster-paced, now more tech than dub, and it's available from today through our label IF? as an exclusive digital download-only release online, via Addictech here:
http://ifrecords.addictech.com/

Oh, and as always there is one hack videoclip up on YouTube here:

^^^^....yep.Some of the nicest blokes ive met and there minimal rolling dub tech foundation has been quite an influence on some of my studio efforts of late.
From what Agius and Marcojux have been saying of late they are spruiking new sounds well beyond mnml as well.

Andrez--well worth a look

Here's the crazy banner Juno has put together for my own latest, which is actually really more "Si Begg's latest", and I'm just hanging onto his illustrious coattails....

Unbelievable, eh? Shame that Beatport doesn't support more esoteric artists in the same fashion...

IF you want to see some awesome local techno acts, 100% live, get along here: http://www.inthemix.com.au/forum/sho...d.php?t=233829

Industrial Negotiator are a bunch of guys who play hard techno, of the Speedy J ilk, tough machine music. Their sets are a Vs style encounter with two guys playing crazy tunes against each other using a Su700 and RedSound SoundBite XLs so they can cut in and over each other without mising a beat.

Machina plays live sets with sounds from the Birmingham sound to some funkier more rolling stuff. He brings along a Genoqs Octopus and a bunch of crazy gear (Spectralis, MPC4k, modified x0x devices) and runs entireley off hardware.

Well, for those of you who don't know me...

I'm a Canadian guy who's just his got perm. residency here, and have been living in Melb for 4 years. Some say I am quite handsome, while others think I am hideous and reclusive.

That Beatport link will give you previews for 25ish tracks and remixes i've released digitally on various labels, including a remix that actually came out today called DiscoLights.

95% of the tracks are different varieties of progressive/tech, although there is one or two that border on funkier house and <gasp> trance. My Album "Ride" has all 11 unmixed tracks of various prog-ness for your perusal

If you enjoy the tracks, perhaps you would like to come say hi to me at Earthcore as I am apparently playing there in Nov.

I'm also 1/2 of the Hong Kong Blondes, a group which is doing quite well commercially, but doesn't do a lot of underground stuff like the tunes I put out under my own name.

edit: spelt perusal wrong

New stuff this week from a Melbourne project, the members of which shall remain nameless for now:

FUNK GADGET
"Blah Blah Remixes"
(IF? Records)

Remixes by Little Nobody and Dick Drone - twisted, somewhat wonky electronic-techy stuff, and the debut release for Funk Gadget.

Available from today as a digital download, exclusively via Addictech:

Check out the up coming releases from Ehsan Gelsi in a new mix he made of all his own tunes at the www.smashbangrecords.com web page, free download. All fopr sale on beatport soon.
Also the young gun Timmus has a whole album of new material soon to hit the web for you. (Once spaz plugs in his hard drive?)

Bubble and Squeak handed me an amazing phsycadelic techno tune last week. Wow! It's coming.
