Found it!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunshine_of_Your_Love

"English Doom band Fudge Tunnel recorded it on their "Hate Songs in E Minor" on Earache Records in the 1990s"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1j9pBRsA4s

Hasn't aged too well but I remember seeing the filmclip on rage and ever since then I've played it that way.

Baax,

Yeah I've got Nailbomb awesome once off album ... in agreance that Sepultura were awesome when all four were togetherm splintered apart they didn't have the same oomph as they had ...

And yeah, put me down for Down as one of my fave bands as well, Phil Anselmo has such a great singing voice, it's as good as how well he does his screams.

Been listening to the new metallica album, and the instrumental song "Suicide and Redemption" has been on high rotation the past few days, kirk does some really good stuff on here, and some great new tones, keen to figure out what gear he's running for it ... and dream while I can't afford it *sadfase*

Oh and here's one You Tube clip all aspiring metal guitarists should watch, the god John Petrucci playing his song Damage Control (one of my personal faves)

you watch this, think "oh he makes this look easy", and then you try to do it yourself ...

Upon hearing samples and Psychosocial from Slipknot's new one, I am quite impressed. Groovy and hard, nice!!

But I find these "woe is me" type lyrics really off-putting.

^ Oops, my presumptiveness has done it to me again... the lyrics featured within AHIG aren't like that at all...!

I feel like I have been living under a rock as it is only now that I have discovered just how musically brilliant Opeth are. Hopefully I haven't missed the Perth show.

Edit; I have ! They were here on Sept 2nd.

If you're liking what you hear you should run, don't walk, to your nearest CD store, and get...

Mikael from Opeth is another of my fave guitarists, the dude is just crazy versatile.

If you like that heavy prog style, check out Between the Buried and Me as well - they're heavier than Opeth and they don't do the whole cross-genre thing as fluidly but they have some epic tunes.

These are probably the only albums I've got atm that fit that bill, but they're awesome, especially Electric Wizard.

Top thread peeps, so much stuff already mentioned that I agree with (especially the Transylvanian Hunger call!)

Lately I've discovered and been blown away by Esoteric, they're an extreme psychadelic Doom band from the UK and are absolutely fucking brilliant in a completely headfucking way, really slow, hynotic songs that go on forever, their latest album "The Maniacal Vale" has 7 tracks and runs over 100 minutes!

"Circle" from the latest album

Live clip of "The Blood of the Eyes" from their previous album:

Media Player

The other band I'm permanently obsessed with are Primordial from the Republic of Ireland, most unique and amazing band in metal for mine who truly defy genre pigeonholing.

Clip of "Gods to the Godless" from their 2000 album "Spirit the Earth Aflame":

I haven't heard of any of them band before SpaceMonkey, I'll check em out.

What was everyones last purchase btw? The last album I got was AngL by Ihsahn, the guitarist from Emperor.

Heavy, fast, dark and beautiful. Great melodies, some huge Bodom-style keys in the background, and wicked technical guitar.

I'm not sure what he uses on that track but I'm fairly sure the album would be a mix of his custom Randall head:

Fusion, PM me and I can flick you a few sample tracks if you like.

Latest purchases?

The aforementioned "The Manaical Vale" by Esoteric:

Ulcerate - "Of Fracture and Failure" Brutal technical death metal from NZ, sounds like a cross between Hate Eternal and Immolation:

Primordial "To the Nameless Dead" (totally fucking epic new album from Primordial)

Paradise Lost "In Requiem" Best PL album since "Draconian Times"

Nigga please.... I was into My Dying Bride before some people on this board were probably born!!!

I saw them supporting Boltthrower at the Marquee in London in 1993, before they'd even released any albums, and bought their first single, the "God is Alone" 7" (hand numbered limited edition, number 42 of 1000!), and I've got everything they've released ever since. Fucking great band, although I wouldn;t call them "stoner", more doom/death or gothic doom depending on the period.

I've been a massive fan of the doom genre for years, Paradise Lost, Anathema, Morgion, dIsembowelment, Winter etc etc all great bands.

Never let it be said that metalheads don;t have a sense of humour (well apart from Manowar anyway)

I just had a quick look at the ATG forum and Anders says while they would love to tour here, there's no plans yet. The best you could probably hope for at the moment is The Haunted covering a song while they are here.

Yeah I haven't listened to any doom metal for ages and was never as much into that genre as others, they were just one of the bands that stuck out in my memory. Last album I bought was probably Immortal - Sons of Northern Darkness or Darkthrone - Transilvanian Hunger on vinyl and that was probably 5 years ago.

This thread has reminded me how you never grow out of it though

Yeah haven't heard anything off their previous album but the track I heard the other night on triple J sounded pretty much like how I remember them. They are touring this month!

Anyone else here a fan of GGFH? They're not really metal at all, more a of cross between Skinny Puppy and NiN on really bad acid, but that probably makes them perfect for the kind of people that would frequent a dance music forum but still listen to metal, and as they were signed to Peaceville (a metal label) most of their fanbase came from the metal scene. They've been around sporadically since the late 80s but only put out 4 albums and a couple of singles/eps, and always been very much a cult act, but I absolutely rate them.

Hasn't aged too well but I remember seeing the filmclip on rage and ever since then I've played it that way.

Agreed that this is a top thread indeed!

DJ Fusion - I will definitely be looking into those albums as soon as I am paid.

I know this discussion is a bit old, but who remembers Fear Factory's cover of Cars?

I am also looking at buying Emperor's Anthems at the Welkin at Dusk and In the Nightside Eclipse, now that my love for metal has been rekindled over the past year. I used to have these two albums and along with CoF and Marduk, they were my first exposure to black metal. I love Emperor's sound because it's not just full on banging, their sound is a lot more intricate than most.

This decade hasnt been as wild, exciting or as decadent as the 90s...Instead weve seen rampant commercialism musically fed to a comfortably numb, dumbed down live-in-the-moment society...In many ways we've witnessed the fun of the 90s being replaced by the anger of this decade.

Never heard of em but I'm a massive NiN fan - would I like em?

I revckon so if you like NIN, although it's a lot more low-fi and fucked up. Anyway judge for yourself, here's a few choice cuts:

Serrated Smile
Real (Nightmare Mix)
Fiending Korpse

All from different albums so they sound quite different but give you a decent cross-section of their shit.
