I think the vamps think that its Lafayette that killed the old guy.

I assume if they drink some of his blood they will know he didn't do it and when they catch up with Jason they will realize that the chick killed him and everyone will be happy.

Yeah that was pretty epic.

It seems that is pretty much the main weakness of the vampires - they get complacent and cocky because they are so powerful.

Means that on occasion they get surprised.
