Printing inserts for your CD wallet
Hey all,

Just wondering what everyone uses to print inserts for their CD wallets? I used to use NERO when I had a PC but im now on a mac.

I use itunes to organize my music and have seen the print utility, only problem is that it cuts short the names of the tracks. Anyone know how to adjust the settings? from what i can see there are no settings.

Pls halp!

I have the same problem, I've just been putting up with the itunes labels...
If there was some way you could export the playlist and import it into a program where you can design you own list that'd be cool, save writing them out again.

I use iTunes also. But if you want the full names, then print, but choose the PDF option. Choose a full page, then when it makes a PDF you can copy and paste it to wherever you wish.

There are a few programs like that. I use one called Disclabel

I made a template, then I just choose the playlist that ive burned, and it prints that onto a cd, cover etc etc

I don't need the full names.
You should know your tracks pretty well and know what remix is what..

took a while but ive worked out a good system.
made a publisher template which lets me put cd number up top and is the exact width of a udg cd wallet slot.
1. print screen playlist in itunes.
2. paste into paint.
3. use square tool to select song number, track name, time and artist.
4. drag into publisher.
5. print, cut and slip into cd wallet. all the information is there.
it takes a while but i is definitely worth it.

you realise you can export the track names of every track in a playlist into a .txt file with 2 clicks...

why the fuck you would go to that much trouble is beyond me.
and if you are using itunes already, just print it straight from that?

dont like the way the txt files come out.. and this way you get full track names etc.
it sounds like a long process but once you know what to do it is a 45 second process.

Tried that program out on the weekend. Definitely recommend it to anyone annoyed with the itunes printing function.

Create a template, select play list, print. Easy!

I think i can solve all your problems. I found this software that allows you to copy to your clipboard all the track names within a folder. Like you know how you cant just select all your tracks and copy there actual "file names" this program allows you to treat the folder in such a manner as to allow you to achieve this.
SAVES HEAPS OF TIME
Please forgive me if i didn't explain that properly but have a look at the program none the less, i think it will help.
Search download.com for a trial of "Screen OCR" let me know how you all do.

iTunes stores the library as an XML file so someone can just code up a site that formats a playlist in a nice pretty printable thing. If I get some time, I might code something up...

Has anyone seen any programs like that disclabel but for Windows?

That doesn't really work very well. I like the column thing iTunes makes, plus I use a bit more of the additional tags that iTunes has.

Anyone else know of any program that gives you more granular control over the iTunes print function or playlist? Also, that is relatively none labour intensive?

I select the playlist I want in iTunes, tell it only to display track name, time, artist, BPM and comment (with the key of the track). Then use a tool called Grab for Mac to select the screenshot I want. Import into Word, change the size to 60% and print. Pretty time consuming but it works well and is faster than hand-writing.

You know you can just hold:

apple, shift, 4

and you can then select a section of the screen for a screen shot right?

I hate itunes, i honestly believe its a socially acceptable virus.... lol <3 ipods, hate itunes

I put my tunes into folders, 7 a piece for my electro house cds, then use a freeware program called dirlister to send the filenames without .mp3 on the end to a text file, i put this into word and jazz it up a bit with the highlighter tool so that i remember tracks to colours and can find my tracks quicker.

As for full names, i hate having names cut short. Call me a perfectionist but i want the full artist name and track name and remix name.

This is what it basically what looks like, cut it up and use wide clear tape to tape it to the outside of the CD sleeve in my CD case. Fits perfectly.

What's with all the hate for iTunes? I don't understand, is there a reason?

I guess its a personal thing, but i use windows folders to organise my music into cds. I also use a program called Mp3 collector to remame all my new tracks from beatport, juno etc from that filename format to clear ARTSIT NAME - TRACK NAME (REMIX) format.

Just feels better, when i look at my friends using itunes it just doesnt feel right. And its not as good (my opinion) when you want to break your music down into genres and sub-genres and blah blah.

(not related to djing): I hate how long itunes takes to add songs to ipods, i use sharepod, quicker, easier, no fuss.
