Point me to a better specced lappy for less (brand new, retail). Not that I don't believe you, I'm just lazy. It can't be a netbook.

For reference, here's JB's povvest model: http://www.digitalhome.com.au/Comput...NOTEBOOK/28799

(Bearing in mind I'm going to be calling someone 500km away and giving them a web address to go to. So it can't be some Chinatown hole in the wall.)

THIS is good.

Really can't be looking at desktop PC addons when I'm not even sure that I'll be using said PC within a year though..

Usually if you keep your eye out, places like Dick Smith and Officeworks provide some pretty good value on clearance laptops. In conjunction with cash-back offers = win. I got my current laptop with intel dual core 1.8 (not celeron), 2 gig ram, 160 gig HD, geforce 8400 dedicated graphics for 849 (749 after 100 bucks cashback). Not saying it's terrible, I suppose being for your mum it wouldn't really matter anyway. But it's just not the MASSIVE SAVINGS catch of the day usually provides. Not like the laser scissors. Could you even buy a laser and a pair of scissors seperately for 4.99? I think not.

Resolution: 1680 x 1050

Fail, imo.

Though I don't really know much about LCD monitor resolutions these days.

Definitely not. I can't wait for mine to arrive. I think I'll use them to cut the best laptop deals out of the next pile of junk mail.

We use the next model down at work. The only thing I've got against them is they're very temperamental on the type of HD cables being used from the 360. Lindy won't connect, official will, Palsonic does(!?)..

I picked up a Linksys WRT320N wireless router from Frys on the way to the airport. $130 USD.

I hope that is a bargain. Probably not though

Oi fgts, it's FREE DAY. You just have to pay shipping

Spoiler:
Items may or may not be shit-house. In the case of the Mystery Item, you won't know 'til you get it, but I'd say it'd be shit.

Yeah I nearly bought the dodgy cordless soldering iron, but I'm starting to get embarrassed by how often I'm picking shit up from the post office. Which reminds me, I have to leave work in five so I can make the post office. Two things to pick up today.

I was on first name basis with the people at the Post Office for a while. Stopped asking me for ID whenever I went in there to pick something up.

Trade in Game Party for 10 bucks somwhere, and you've got a Wii for like $349.

Not a very exciting bump, but a worthy mention if you want to protect your shit. And the savings are massive.

I've seen those things before, but I seriously have no idea how they could be useful.

I'm pretty sure there's a t-shirt that lights up when there's a Wi-Fi signal too.

EDIT: Yes, there is - http://www.thinkgeek.com/tshirts-app...eractive/991e/

This one's actually kinda cool, though I wouldn't wear it.

About a week ago, BOTH our microwave and washing machine broke down, at exactly the same time. I'd take a guess that it must have been a power surge cause what are the odds? The washing machine was >8 years old anyhow so it was due for a replacement. The washing machine caused a couple of brown outs and then later when we tried to use the uwave we found that it no longer omitted any heat. The uwave was only 2 years old but it's LG so it was prob near the end of its life cycle also.

The weird thing is the next morning after having bought replacement appliances, some scavengers were already there to collect our old washing machine and uwave. I mean do people drive around every morning and inspect people's front yards for appliances being thrown out or are they tipped off by retailers? It was slightly creepy, but at the same time they saved us from calling the council for pickup.

Wouldn't suprise me if there is some mr. fixits around the place who make a living from it. Or people who are on the dole and do it for some cash on the side. Some people might scope out the neighbourhood on their way to/from work.

Next door neighbours were throwing out a fussball table a little while ago. Was very similar to our one, cept in mint condition. Saw it sitting on the front lawn when I was getting in my car to go out somewhere. By the time I got home, it was gone.
