haha right back atcha Jules.

Yeah, I got into them only a few years ago but I think I've read all the books about 5 or 6 times over. It's a shame this didn't come up on the weekend, we could have sperged over them some.

If you'd never experienced a waxed ****, then a well groomed but long haired one would be much better than the alternative.

Eeenteresting. Just finished book one too - I can't think what "fantastical" elements they could have reduced, really. There isn't much of that in the first book, save the wights and the very end.

Love the latest trailer.

Meanwhile... there is news. Big news. The end is in sight, at long long last, and we're close enough so that my editors and publishers at Bantam Spectra have set an actual publication date.

A DANCE WITH DRAGONS will be in your favorite bookstore on

TUESDAY, JULY 12, 2011

Yes, I know. You've all seen publication dates before: dates in 2007, 2008, 2009. None of those were ever hard dates, however. Most of them... well, call it wishful thinking, boundless optimism, cockeyed dreams, honest mistakes, whatever you like.

This date is different. This date is real.

Barring tsunamis, general strikes, world wars, or asteroid strikes, you will have the novel in your hands on July 12. I hope you like it.

((For what it's worth, the book's a monster. Think A STORM OF SWORDS))

The dragons are coming. Prepare to dance.

And hey... thanks for waiting.

Are the books a good read then? How many are there? I'm enjoying Stephen King's The Dark Tower and I'm looking for more sort of alternative type fantasy, would this suffice?

Also looking forward to the TV show from what I've seen here.

Yes. A very very good read.

How many are there?
5 separate books. Part 3 is two books.

alternative type fantasy, would this suffice?
This is more politics than fantasy. It's completely character driven and for a "fantasy" series it's actually quite light on the actual fantasy.

Just go and buy the first book. You'll know pretty quickly if it's for you or not. I reckon the themes are universal and most people would enjoy them.

That's some useless advice. Don't call something "shit" when it clearly is not. From what Nic_zero said they aren't really comparable, either.

Will look into them once I'm done with Dark Tower anyway

yeah totally

i really enjoyed the dark tower series and was raving on about it like it was the best series ever.

then i started reading a game of thrones and my mind quickly changed as i came to realise that dark tower was absolute balls in comparison.

seriously, steven king didnt even know wtf he was writing about as he wrote that lol. seems like near to no planning went into the story.

For starters, I'm discounting everything you said due to "Steven King". Learn to spell. You'd expect somebody who has read his novels to know how to spell his name.

Secondly, I will read these books eventually, and make up my own mind

I enjoyed the Dark Tower but only really the first 4 books - kinda trailed off into something else after that. Was never enough Gilead stuff imo (from memory).

Game of Thrones is pretty win. It'll take a while / a few reads to get into it but worth it.

Meanwhile, pretty excited to see a release date confirmed
