Neptune, Non Verbal Language and Good Voodoo are a few of my favourite tunes of last year, not to mention their swag of remixes (Sweep, Burn, Blue Lividus, etc). Big fan.

Edit: Did they play a lot of their own stuff?

I really didn't recognise any old Lolitas tracks... So if it was their stuff, must have been new. But he really did play some sublime melodic prog.

I will dig up some sets but there hasn't been many around

Make sure you all download their Nordic Therapy mix (October 2006 Promo) on that page LL linked if you haven't already, I remember caning it everyday for about a month solid when it first came out, though it's obviously quite dated now so probably has lost a bit of the magic it once had. Probably a classic to pull out one day in five or ten years time though.

In Brisbane, they played the Tim Davison remix of 'Hey Boy, Hey Girl' into Deadmau5 mix of Daft Punk into New Order 'Blue Monday' into what was probably the Tim Davidson remix of Cowgirl. Was appropriate for a festival but pretty much out of the generic "how to smash a festival with anthems" text book.

Their after party set was a different matter, really good melodic prog.

I felt exactly the same as you. Being a huge fan of the 16BL's sets and productions in particular for many years now I was really hoping for a strong thumping melodic house set, but instead it was definitely more of a 'festival set' for the masses here in Perth too. Not deep at all. I didn't hear any originals but heard both those tracks you mention too. Pity there was no club night here in Perth to experience a proper 16BL club set.

This is still my favourite 16 Bit Lolitas set: http://www.inthemix.com.au/broadband/fm/26468/ (Justmusic FM 31-10-2005)

Of course it was a festival set... If you expected any different out here then

At a club is always going to be better as i am sure we all realise. Its exactly the reason why Digweed will be different this year.

Yeah there are festival friendly sets and then there are same old festival sets. Didn't actually expect much different from what was delivered, but was hoping for at least a hint of the trademark 16BL sound.

Ouch this one really hurts - We've been trying to tighten the old purse strings in light of the mortgage and the wedding which means my music inspired spine tingles and knowing nods of approval have been confined to my computer screen and head phones, however there’s nothing like missing out on true pioneers of the sound you love to make you question the roof over your head!

I absolutely love their work on this set:

16 Bit Lolitas - Live @ Bahnhof, Szekesfehervar, Hungary - April 27, 2007

I think they are justifiable heavy weights of our scene only with out all the pretentiousness - Much power to them!

16 Bit Lolitas
What are your opinions? Being honest was never really interested, my mate always was, didn't know what he was hyping up. But tonight i get in my car pick up my exgf, had sasha's set at creamfields in the car so i get the "i don't like this music!" so i say fuck ya, turn triple J on, and what do you know a set by 16 Bit Lolitas starts playing. I must say i was enjoying it so when i got home turned on the radio, its still cranking love ing. i think i was to not trust my mates instincts on them.

But yeah, what are ur thoughts on them?

They had some pretty average releases late last year and earlier this year but they've lifted their game again lately. Here's what I said about one of their recent tracks in the Brisbane forum:

Quote:

The 16 Bit Lolitas are BACK!! This is by FAR the best production I've heard from them all year, you can hear it's them all over but absolutely loving the deeper trance sound. Loving the vocal touch from Jennifer Horne and that piano melody through the breakdown is just perfect and really tops the track off for me. Big return to form here.

I'm also a big fan of their Warung Beach release. I'm a big fan of them full stop because even though they're very hit and miss, I know the quality they're capable of as producers when they really nail it.

Their best tracks for me are Neptune and Non Verbal Language. They are both among my favourite tracks of last year.

They've got a big back catalogue too which is definitely worth a listen through. Few artists are as prominent in my iTunes library as these guys.

nobody seems to care is beautiful but murder weapon is the pick for me.

as said, their releases over the past year or so haven't grabbed me that much but some of their recent tunes have been great. They've beefed up their sound a bit, moved away from that gay prog sound to some good floor shaking proper prog.

gay prog? pft - no such thing

Their warung release is really solid - a much deeper sound and I am digging i. Been a huge fan of their work for a couple of years, but agree they did go through a flat spot recently.

Always been a massive fan of their older productions am happy with some of the stuff they're bringing out now especially Murder Weapon & 5-12 those basslines are just :O :O :O also the more deeper paddier tune Astrid Suryanto - Distant Bar (16 Bit Lolitas Mix) is really working for me atm

I saw Arian earlier in the year @ 161 was a fun night, don't really rate him technically as a DJ but that all doesn't matter because he plays such awsome tunes!

Just gone through Disc 2 of Warung Barzil 001.

The whole disc is high quality. It takes off from tracks 8 though to the end at 12. Driving melodic prog at its best!

Tracks are:

08. Starfish Prime
09. The Heartbreak Files
10. 5 to 12
11. Murder Weapon
12. Ceres

LOL... 16 Bit Lolita's are fucken awesome.

too bad he was absolutely buckled at Laundry after spending the day at Foreshore and started off with 4 Bodzinesque breakdowns then slowed it up with non existant mixing.

Truly terrible exhibition of DJing but the tracks were fucking epic!!!!

I do think though that they should try ableton while playing live.
Technially they ain't the best.
