Hi forum peoples, Seeing as the trend is to keep new releases in the one thread, I'm starting this here one for HAUL.

HAUL 003 - "D.I.T.H.L"
You might be surprised to hear that Craig McWhinney is the one of us here at HAUL least in the limelight, the dark horse so to speak... a character so far out to sea he may as well belong to Davy Jones' locker. And it's from way down there that we at HAUL would like to offer you Craig's first EP on our label. Something to pick you up off the ocean floor but not necessarily deliver you from evil (or groovil if you read our last press release).

An acronym for "Deep In The Hurt Locker" - D.I.T.H.L. - could have let loose with a whole swag of emotional baggage yet Craig preferred to produce some super charged techno instead. D.I.T.H.L. builds from the deep and breaches the surface like a depth charge, setting sail on a perfect mix of tight, jackin' percussion and waves of super synth progression. A whale of a tune.

Meanwhile, Christian Vance goes even deeper (into the HURT LOCKER) with his exceptional deep house remix. Full of moody ambience, signature chords, rhythms and Christian’s own vocals. This man demonstrates once again why he is at the forefront of Australian electronic music and why he needs to flick his fringe back every now and again.

Finishing off the package is Mike Callander’s house-inspired outing (reminiscent of some Dirty House vibes from back in the day). With its simple peaks and drops, stabs and sirens, one wonders whether Mike might have lost himself at the disco. In any case, his use of Craig’s original elements is applied to devastating effect.

So close down the hatch on this submarine, get your periscope ready and dive with us into the HURT LOCKER. We promise you won't feel a thing.

The hurt locker isn't really an emotional place, it's where you try to escape from when sleep dep. kicks in luckily, haven't been there for a good while.

yeah loving Vance's remix really deep which is what i like!

Finally gave the latest HAUL a listen. Quality all round. I love the different perspectives from each contributor. Genuinely different yet similar. This is a common theme on each release that I have noticed and gives it a certain uniqueness that other labels don't have. Keep it coming!

Drone is stil my favourite as all three mixes are different and excellent for what they are (given their different styles).

Haul 4 is a very close second.

It's dark outside, let's "chase the night" sings a possum-eyed Christian Vance to the techno kids who can't get off the dancefloor to make their way home.

He was just like them once. He understands. At 16 he was a permanent fixture on the Melbourne clubbing schedule. Not as a performer, but as a punter. The little boy that loved nothing more than the raw, warm sound of analogue vibrations at high amplitude.

These days, he is releasing on Ripperton's Perspectiv imprint, and remixing for the ever-impressive Versatile label... but he's equally excited about - and we quote directly from his Facebook status updates - lingering flavours of wild mushrooms and chevre on toast, old Rockford Riesling, Gruyere souffle, Coq au Vin, a glass of Chassagne Montrachet, Tarte au Citron for dessert. Limoncello.... espresso.... and you're wondering what happened between now and then?

It's as if he leads a double life. Man of the world meets child of the night. True story. No word of a lie. After hours, he's the king of the kids, that Christian Vance. He gets older every year, but through them, and their dancefloor chase, he and they remain linked in some kind of static youth. He's the Peter Pan of Australian techno. He can crowe, he can fly, he can chase the night.

But then you read his Facebook status and you wonder what goes on inside his head. Is this the same man? Christian's label mates at Haul Music, Craig and Mike, have been so traumatised by the realisation of these goings on that they though it might be easier for them, therapeutic even, if you all knew what they were dealing with.

Getting inside Christian's head is a blessing and a curse, a beautiful beast of a challenge, a journey not safe to undertake on one's own. Not even with a good travel companion. Safety in numbers. Let's Chase The Night together. Please Bring a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc for the peasants and an olive branch for the Gods.

In a departure from Haul Music's traditional three-part remix format, HAUL004 features two versions of the theme by the original artist, and a remix by Craig McWhinney. Mike was too scared to venture any further into Christian's headspace without a guarantee of his safe return. Christian could not confirm. So, good luck to you all when you listen.
