Had dinner at Tsunami in Mosman Park last night. Highly recommended!
The decor etc is really really lovely. And the food was awesome.
Highlights were the "Tsunami roll" sushi, twin creme brulee and the green tea icecream.
YUM!

went to Sebastian's Italian cafe in East Vic Park last night - was decent.

had this creamy penne with king prawns, snow peas and garlic & white wine sauce. yum.

friend had lamb shanks - generous serving.

other two friends went for the pizza - looked a bit average.

they have this massive pepper mill about a metre tall. but then they forgot to offer us any
other than that - was a nice dinner

Went to Fab burgers at Hillarys last weekend. Anyone else been? Thoughts? Wondering how it compares to all these other fancy burger joints that are around lately. I thought it was pretty good, but it wasn't amazing or anything. Thinking if I should go back to try another burger on the menu, or maybe try somewhere else.

I've been to FAB in Subiaco but not in Hillarys.
I'd say exactly what you've just said - pretty good but not amazing.
I'm dead keen to try Jus Burgers.

Anyone know if Kabuki sushi is any good in Vic Park?

Also what are some generally good, affordable eateries around the area? I remember someone telling me about an awesome Chinese place but its name eludes me. I will be in Vic Park a lot more often over the next twelve months.

Went to V-burger in Vic Park today .. was pretty damn good, and not as pricey as Jus. Plus they have a Mini-V & chips for $7! There's another place up the road that does great burgers, but I can never remember the name (Gus knows it).

Next door to V-burger is Bintang (pretty sure same owners) - awesome Indonesian, cheap as, huge serves and tastes great. The more 'country-style' Batavia cnr is next door, and is ok, but pretty sure the duck I ordered was fresh from home ... the Thai place in teh same block of shops is also worthy. Also, The Prophet is curerntly being demolished?? Hope it's just for renovations.

For better japanese head across the tracks to Sapporo opp. Carslile station. GREAT food, cheap, and better yet their sushi is freshly made. But if eating in or ordering off the menu be prepared for a wait. Good for long lunch.

not a fan of Kabuki.. they're not owned by Japanese ppl either (but hey, not many aren't these days)

Koto next to Gloria Jeans near Centro Vic Park is a little better imo, if you want quick takeaway Japanese.

But for much better Japanese in Vic Park - Sushi Station Fuji (near John Hughes) (but for dine in, not takeaway), or Senoji (East Vic Park) and I have not been to Sapporo but heard it's good.

not sure about the awesome Chinese place.. ?Ten Ten Kitchen perhaps? cheap and good.

+1 for Sapporo being all kinds of awesome. I haven't been there for a few years now as I'm living up north. The outside of the building doesn't give you high expectations, but it was a favorite of mine when I was living in the area.

Thanks for the recommendations everyone. I shall definitely check out V-Burger, Sapporo and others in the coming weeks and months.

It has to be said that good sushi is hard to come by, therefore Sapporo is definitely high on the list.

Ten Ten Kitchen sounds very familiar btw.

speaking of sushi !

went to Jaws Hay St Mall (kaiten zushi = sushi train ) last Sat

they do 45min all you can eat for $27.50 on Sat nights

ate lots of salmon, raw tuna, mackeral - very tasty (every time i saw eel by the time it came around to my side it was gone )

runs from 5pm - 8:30pm, no bookings, just rock up

went in at 7pm and didn't wait too long to get a seat (there were 5 of us) and there were plenty of varieties of sushi & bits of Japanese fried chicken & takoyaki on rotation

good value (if you eat lots)

Does it cost extra if they make it up for you, or is it just on the usual coloured plate for however much it is?

I haven't had eel in aaaaaaaaages. I love the eel don from Taka's on the corner of Barrack & Wellington streets.

Thach quans restaurant (TQR) on Stirling Hwy. Mains were ok but spring roll starters were super delicious, I'd go there just for a meal of these.

Has anyone been to the Matilda Bay restaurant in Crawley? I saw a flyer of theirs yesterday at a mate's place stating they're doing $29 whole crayfish for lunch on Fri/Sat/Sun until the 10th of March (I think... it might've been Feb. I'd had a few drinks by the time I saw the flyer ). I'm rather keen to give it a shot.

After looking over their website, I'm guessing they have no affiliation with the brewery?

Right... looks like there's a Crayfish mission on the cards at some stage then. The flyer definitely says March, so that's plenty of time.

Well I must say that I cannot believe I ignored the Miami bakehouse for so long, especially when it's literally a drop-punt away. I enjoyed a steak & Guinness pie for lunch today and my gosh I didn't want it to end.

I haven't eaten a pie for ages. Prob the weather. Eating a fair bit of Subway and sushi or just taking leftovers in.

^ Whoahs! That is exxy.

Today is good pie weather.

There's another excellent bakery in the Bicton shops, tasty pies with their only letdown being that they are a bit on the small side.

Tony Ale pies, although well made and huge, are second-rate compared to Miami, Villies, etc.

You're in Broome?? I was in Broome last week! Sucks during the wet season. Tried the few places that were open but never made it to Divers. Guess that's a good thing. Worst food we had was at the Cable Beach Resort restaurant - crap crap crap and expensive. The food at the Roey was better ! Matso's was the winner, but after going there about 4-5 times it got pretty boring. The Thai place was actually pretty good too (the one near the bookshop).

One thing we noticed about Broome is, the beer that comes in your glass isn't always what you paid for! They must have thought we were naive tourists.

Yeah, I live in Broome. I posted a message in the highlight of your day thread saying that if you wanted someone to show you around or have a beer with to hit me up. I didn't see you post for a couple of days after so just figured you were flat out with work.

You have to be concerned when the food at the Roey is better than a 5 star resort restaurant. It's normally pretty hit and miss there, maybe you just got unlucky. Matsos is always a winner, I love the building as well. Wide verandas overlooking the bay with boutique beers is all kinds of win. Som Thai is a favourite amongst the locals, so glad you checked it out! Carlottas and Thai Pearl would be my two top recommendations, unfortunately though, they're only open during the dry season.

So Matso's does food too eh? Something along the same vein as Feral in Swan I'm guessing? If ever I get up there I'll have to check it out.

I'm not sure as I haven't been to Feral. The Ocean and Earth share plate is a must do, although I just had a look online and it seems they no longer serve Kangaroo with it. That was the best part. Also the Chicken and Egg Omelette on rice is all kinds of awesome. It's called Oyako-donburi which apparently when translated means parent and child omelette in reference to the use of chicken and egg.

Hit the Toad is my preferred beer, although they have just released a pale ale which as of yet has no name (they are running a competition for people to name it) which I haven't tried, but have heard it's the business.
