yea well this already got posted in another thread ... but watching it i couldn't help but think of a multitude of the fresh blood here and their approach to DJing

Yes, by all means, go out and buy this kit. But please, for the love of god, don't play any house parties, club/bar gigs or post clips or mixes until you get a fukking clue.

DJs are a dime a dozen, even though they're buying gear that costs a pretty penny

yeah, but you should at least suck in private and not broadcast your shitness all over the world for millions to see if you're just starting out.

yea i do ... i had one old denon turntable, a very dodgy 2 channel Numark mixer and a regular everyday CD player, no FX to be seen (or heard) and i could still make a more bearable noise than displayed here ... i also didn't broadcast my nubile efforts to the entire world but realised it's best to stay behind closed doors until i'd nailed the basics.

if "the kid" is moronic enough to post this kind of thing on youtube he doesn't deserve support ... he deserves a reality check.

When I started I was most likely that crap though we didn’t have CD players then, I had 2 tape decks and a Technics D2 and a BVL mixer, if I remember right!

Check this out one. Not sure if it is the same guy or his mate, but seems they have more money then musical taste or sense.

2 x CDJ1000, Macbook Pro, Xone3D, 2xTechnics TT, Laptop Stand, KRK monitors. Bit of a joke really.

Oh well. Im sure one of us will pick up a good deal in a couple of months or so.

err, flatty88... i don't get what that video has in relation to the OP, other than the amount of investment in the gear. A lot of people have set ups that elaborate, check out the post your picture thread and he can mix alright... i mean the first guy clearly doesn't have a clue about beatmatching, the 2nd guy does...

yeh, that's obvious, but why not upgrade then?
i just think it's overkill unless you really are planning on using 3/4 deck combos, why bother with more than two channels when you're just starting out??

it's easier to just buy extra gear when you need it or can afford it than it would be to sell off a mixer (probably for significantly less than you paid for it) and have to buy a new one.

i'm getting a 4 channel mixer to start out with even though i only have 2 turntables currently, so i can just add cdjs later and not have to concern myself with changing anything else.

fair enough - that sounds like a good idea
i've met a few guys who've sold their cdjs after a few years and only ever had two, yet they always had a four channel mixer ... that's always confused me a bit... i guess it depends on how far you go with it

Lol Epic mixing.

Gotta start somewhere i suppose. And as for the people mentioning kids should not have setups like this. I remember being 15/16 with a weekend/weeknight job, nothing at all to save for. I had top of the line shit just because all my money went no where else... I even had a $3k gaming PC just because one weekend i was fucken bored and had a real issue with saving so i went out and bought all the parts just for a weekend exercise.

Shame I can't do that now dam you bills
Best thing i can do is look for second hand stuff being sold from people like this who gave up and get a bargain.

Both videos were posted by the same guy on Youtube. It appears that this guy is a mate of the guy in the first video.

I have been through the 'Post a picture of your DJ Setup' many a times, and i have seen some awesome setup's, but after listening to those individuals mixes in their sigs, compared to this guys attempt at a mix, it can be seen that he should prob master the basics before spending $10k on a setup.

The basics are easier to master on an awesome setup, are you shitty because they have more expensive gear than what you learned on?

1st Kid) Gees...can someone take that DJM-800 away from him and replace it with a 2-channel mixer with NO fx.

2nd Guy) Another over-use of fx, less is more...seems too preoccupied with fx than mixing. Perhaps he should change the genre if he's bored?...and sell some of his gear to reflect his genre choice...minimal. I'll have those TT's though...doesn't look like he's using them.

A) no, couldn't care less
B) I do not believe your first statement to be true anyway

Do you go buy a Ferrari when you learn to drive? There's no need for top level gear to learn to DJ...it makes you a better, more adaptable DJ if you learnt on crap setup. Learn at home a your flash shit, get your first gig at some small club with run down 1200 MKII's which still have the zero click and wabble in pitch in or around zero, a Pioneer CD3000 dual unit and some shit house orange plastic Vestax mixer and watch them shit themselves and not be able to play.

Learn on crap, playing on awesome = easy
Learn on awesome, playing on crap = nightmare

Exactly! Bells and whistles like that totally distract from learning the basics of beat matching...not to mention the next level stuff like EQ'ing, transition/mix points, flow, track selection, programing etc

The nature of threads that get repeated here tends to point to the fact that these aren't as important as having "the right gear"

essentially that's the point of this thread and what's wrong with DJ culture at the moment

These are elements that are even more important than being able to use (or have) FX and i would contend even more important than being able to beatmatch. They are also the elements that can be mastered on the most basic pieces of kit (or lack there of)
