That'd be right.
All things going well, I won't end up with an inferiority complex once we get further details (on the tech AND the price), after just having bought a whole bunch of kit.

Some early discussion: http://www.skratchworx.com/news3/comments.php?id=1295

Unfortunately, another forum had a thread deleted (first post in comments). Wonder if it had pics...

Pitch bend buttons!

I'd be one of few people who actually prefer those on the denon to the platter on the cdj's.

yeah the screen pops up at an angle, thats right.

i'd def be getting these if i was staying with using cd's or scratch but i'm looking at moving towards the xone 4d and traktor pro by itself.

Oh wow, how excitement! wonder how long before this bad boy will be industry standard? im guessing quite some time. and im surprised how long its taken them to actually install pitch bend buttons on their cd players - every single other brand uses that technology ffs! i definately prefer pitch bend buttons, only cause im so used to them on my denons...

I use pitch bend buttons on my Omnitronic CDP-770 too. I can so much more accurately with them too!

OEL display by the looks of things
Been expecting Pioneer to include this for a very long time....they have been using it on their car stereo units forever now

This could be the solution i have been hanging for in a new CDJ/MIDI unit

Yeah, I prefer the pitch bend buttons on my Tascam and the Denons clubs use to have over the jog wheel setup!

As usual Pioneer is still catching up on technology, Numark (and others I’m sure) have had hard drive players out for well over 3years now!

the Denon DNS 3700 also has a waveform, as well as MIDI integration and a spinning 10 inch platter, and you could probably get two of them for 3000 AUD...

so...yer, i think its about time...also agree with JZ promo video that reducing reliance on the ol laptop DJ is good, in terms of club set-ups and audience feedback

It's a matter of spending an hour playing with them. Very precise, but i have to say the 1000s platters on full is very nice. The only thing that I dont like about my 3500s is how lose the platter is, which is why I use the pitch bend quite a bit.

I've never really understood why people rave about the waveform either. It's not like it's hard to tell when the song is going to breakdown, plus you should really know your songs.

I like the blue CDJ-400 style ring. Not surprised that they would be moving towards the CDJ-400 in certain aspects, like MIDI and USB for instance. I would say it's not hard drive based, but rather flash based, as your seek times for reading/manipulating audio files will be greatly improved that way and flash isn't hugely expensive anymore. This ties into waveform support as well, which imo is something better suited to a proper screen where you can actually see and use the waveform ala Traktor. Even if the new screen is colour and all that jazz, on a CDJ it's still not likely to be the best screen in the world, especially if those super exposed pictures are real.

Personally I'm hoping it has a bit of a brushed metal feel like the DVJ as well. Would make sense what with the blue highlights like the DVD bay light thingy the DVJ has.

(I didn't sift through the linked thread because my understanding was it was just speculation and there's no facts in there, correct me if I'm wrong by all means.)

CDJ1000 mk4 being their main priority, I would say the CDJ800 will be next and then much later on a new mixer. The DJM800 is quite new and despite the fact that they are almost certainly always working on something new, I wouldn't expect a new mixer anytime this decade.

EDIT - Scratch that, how about this:

its a mobile dj mixer and has different output zones (so you can route different inputs to different rooms etc) and other features mobile dj's need so its not really a "club" mixer per se. But does look alright!

I hear ya mate, no one uses the platter on the S3500s - it has no resistance whatsoever, so it is almost completely usless for bending the pitch. the pitch bend is so precise, i love it. just one tiny squirt will get your mix back in sync straight away... those who are all like 'of pioneer platters are the tits!!!1!' have obviously never used a good pitch bend. they do actually differ in quality between brands, and denon is so far my pick of the crop

I fapped to this.

Seriously, i think despite the piss expensive prices, Pioneer leads the way for DJ technology. The same goes to Vestax and Numark, but Pioneer leads the way.

except in this case, all the technology has been around in other players for years. without going into a pio v others bash/debate, you could hardly call this sort of player as leading the way in technology (if this MK4 is what pio is trying to hype that is).

For me with the 3500s i tend to pitch ride instead of relying on the platter.

For 800s and 1000's i find it difficult to pitch ride, but found it quite easy on the denons in comparison.

I tend to use the +4 pitch, key lock and just ride the slide.
