The Perth trance thread
I figured we have to make a thread for this at some point, I also thought I can try and keep this first post updated with confirmed Trance events coming up in the future for everyone to see at a quick glance..... Eg :

26/12/09 -- Tydi + Audrey Gallagher @ Rise

01/01/10 -- Planet 01 @ Ambar

03/01/10 -- Summadayze @ The Esplanade and Supreme Court Gardens

15/01/10 -- Up There with... Jochen Miller, Ben Gold & Rossco

22/01/10 -- Dash Berlin @ Rise

05/02/10 -- Tenishia @ Rise

10/02/10 -- Tiesto @ Metro City

11/02/10-- Tiesto @ Metro City

12/02/10 -- Tiesto @ Metro City

Something like that... What do you think? Then we can use the rest of the thread for rumours/ comments/reviews/general Trance discussion

For any updates, just PM me

Where's The Three Billy-Goats when you need 'em?

Btw Ben Gold and Jochen Miller have been confirmed for a January gig.

Who has some spare dollars? There is an offer to bring Arnej over for Jan...but after seeing the success of recent events in Perth (not just Trance) I can't see anything working out

Shoot, I deleted the Rise newsletter that listed the date. I can't even find any info via Google. All's not lost though, I imagine that being a Wednesday Rise will send out another one.

was going to buy a Tiesto Ticket, then thought what are the chances of him actually playing anything tranceyy at all. His new Album hurts my ears.

Flight 643, Urban Train & Magikal Circus are just a distant memory now....

most awesome indeed...
day club does isnt without its charm though, or a day/night/morning club, and you could bring Sander to it and we could have Dusk Till Doorn

Pretty funny how so many people froth over Tiesto's old shit yet never realise that he didnt even make it....... Ronald Van Gelderen made it.

The guys a fucken muppet ****

In fact, about 80% of the Trance world are muppet ****s.

Good to see Rossco on a bill over there...... one of the best DJ's in Oz... 4 decks tight as fuck.

And they are ruining it for the other 20%!

Actually its the same in every genre, it just seems more pronounced in Trance.

Yep.

Its just been commercialized to the point that the majority of the successful producers are just an image in front of someone like Activa's work.... lol... that bloke produces like half the worlds good Trance.

Only big gun that does it all on his own is Ferry Corsten..... he doesnt produce Trance... Trance follows what he produces.

Arnej would be cool, but i can see the tiesto concert being a massive disappointment. i've already gotten my ticket since it is tiesto, but if he only plays songs from kaleidoscope i will leave very unhappy

Don't worry Chach, SurfinBird, trance hat0rs, trance tnthusiasts and tard**** fanboys, trance's bubble will burst sooner or later and when it does, that's when creativity from producers and DJs shall once again blossom forth.

We're in that stage of the cycle wherein producers and DJs are resorting to wishy-washy vocal shite because it's the most palatable as far as the masses are concerned. It sells. The masses will tire of it soon enough, and hopefully they'll move onto some other deformed incarnation of house music. The upshot being that ASOT mixes will once again be worth listening to week-to-week.

Or is this wishful thinking?

I agree, genres rarely die, but sometimes they have the recession that they had to have, and when all the bandwagon jumpers leave, the best remain.

True. It's history repeating itself. Trance went through a similar phase after it peaked around 199something=2002.

We pulled a forgotten classic set from the vault yesterday - Paul Oakenfold at Gatecrasher (NEC) from 2001. A nigh on perfect set that goes from melodic prog trance (opening with Cass & Slide - Glad I Ate Her) to some down n' dirty prog and then from there Oakie unleashes the fully fledged hands in the air tance.

Or is this wishful thinking?

Jules summed it up perfectly when talking about Vibrasphere being at number 1 on the Beatport Trance charts

"it aint gunna pick up 'trance'...'trance' is fucked.

Real trance will always live in techno, prog and psy....but that word 'trance' i dunno if theres any coming back."

Its too far gone imo.... the fuck.... this is considered Trance these days

Media Player
YouTube

Nothing 'Trance' about shit like that.... It was originally called Trance for a reason... its just Europop or some shit.

Then shit thats called Psy is way more 'Trance' than anything on any of the major Trance labels.

Media Player
YouTube

.... but I guess thats what happens when something goes proper mainstream.

* Sigh *

The really sad thing about tunes like Find Yourself is that when they are published, the forward thinking stuff doesn't get a look in. Armin has always to one extent or another played cheesy love songs, in fact every "trance" DJ has since day dot, but his mixes would feature some amazing tunes like Mark Otten - Mushroom Therapy, LNQ - Tired, M.I.K.E. - Massive Motion... Fark I could sit here for ages writing out artists and titles. One now has to look elsewhere for forward thinking stuff like this because now Armin, A&B, etc. now rely on cheesy love songs that attract mass interest rather than a more discerning listener.

Markus Schulz is in danger of falling into the same trap. Atm his radio shows are choc full of decent tracks but my god his live sets are as cheesy as an American teenager's face. A lot of his older productions are love songs but they are songs from the heart, not mass produced tripe that has no feeling whatsoever. His newer works haven't impressed me that much I must admit.

Drifty psy-trance doesn't always do it for me because it's sometimes not really emotive. Occasionally I like to listen to music that puts me in a trance but I prefer some forms of techno over psy-trance.

Fkn oath! Trouble is, it's usually Hardware who bring over J00F and for one reason or another they don't put Perth shows on.

Rise membership relaunch this Sat!

Definitely worth it IMO - saves you $5 off entry and if you go before midnight - you normally get a free/cheaper drink as well.

Perhaps the $50 price is for those who had memberships more than a year ago?

Dang, wish I could afford membership.
