Visa for Vietnam
Hi,
Does anyone know how much a tourist visa for Vietnam costs?
I've booked to go there for 5 days and the embassy website doesn't say. No response on the phone numbers they've provided either.

Thanks!

A single-entry tourist visa valid for 30 days costs US$65(although exact fees vary depending on issuing country) and takes around 4-7 days to process; express visas take 2-3 days at twice the price.

you're in NSW....this is the private operator that does all the visas for the Vietnamese govt here in Sydney...

call them Sydney: 489 New South Head Road, Double Bay · Phone: (62)327-2539 just past the vintage cellars...

That's kind of dumb seeing as the Vietnamese consulate is located in the same area on the same road and you will save time going directly:
Vietnamese Consulate General
Suite 205, level 2, Edgecliff Centre
203 - 233 New South Head Road,
Edgecliff, NSW 2027.
Tel: 02 93271912 / 02 93272539
Fax: 02 93281653

http://www.vnconsulate.org.au/

Before I had residency in Vietnam, I used to get visas from there in 3-4days and either same day or next day if I was in a hurry.

If you're in Australia and getting the visa, it will be from either the Vietnamese consulate in Sydney or the embassy in Canberra. That's where all agents will be sending to or you can go direct.

If you are in Sydney or Canberra I would go direct to them otherwise you can do it through any travel agent or visa courier service.

Personally I'd feel safer doing it through a visa runner company.

sending my passport through standard mail... i dono.. it doesn't feel right.

I've just had to send my passport, my birth certificate, my dad's birth certificate, my parent's original marriage certificate and my dad's UK passport to the UK High Commission. I'm sweating bullets til it comes back I can tell you.

Yeah, I wasn't terribly keen on leaving my passport to the mercy of the registered post system. Was so relieved when I got it back (with only a few days to spare).

anyone heard of a visa invitation letter?

ive just been offered by my accommodation over there to organise my visa for when i arrive

"We can get you a Vietnamese visa invitation letter. All we require is a copy (or photo) of your passport.

With this letter you can get a VISA on arrival when you fly into Hanoi airport.

The costs for the letter are 25USD, and the VISA is also 25USD.

All you need to do is bring the letter, 2 passport photos and 25USD in cash when you fly in."

does this sound right? thanks

No you need to send your passport and fill out a visa application form from the Vietnamese consulate in Canberra. I think it cost 70 bucks and you have to supply the return paid envelope. just go to their website
http://www.vietnamembassy.org.au and go into the consular services tab.....the application form is there.
Sent my passport there registered post and got it back within 7 days.....no problems at all.

there used to be an office in sydney as well. No need to add courier cost if you can drop it off in sydney still.

He guys,

I got dual citizenship but for now I have to use my Turkish passport and apparently I need to get an approval letter. Nickname Davidbrent, how did you get your invitation letter mate? I need to do the same in order to get a visa from the embassy to Vietnam.
Can anyone provide me some details as to how I can get an approval letter or have someone invite me?

Cheers,

Emre

Appproval letters are only for visa on arrival at airport. If you obtain a visa before hand through a Vietnam consulate or embassy, you will not require one.
The consulate is in Edgecliff and the embassy is in Canberra and you are best to call one of them. You can either go into them direct to drop your passport in and pick it up or you can use one of the passport courier services via you local travel agent for a nominal fee. I used to do it for almost 6 years until I got a residency visa there which is 3yrs renewable avoiding the hassle of getting a visa everytime not to mention the expense.

Also, Vietnam is waiving the visa fee for tourists on tours till the end of the year.

Some information below regarding visas and the visa exemption below.

visa vietnam www.vietnam-evisa.org
Unless you already have valid Vietnam travel visa stamped on your passport, you must have "Visa approval letter" at hand for picking up your visa-upon-arrival at the airport in Vietnam.

You cannot enter and travel Vietnam and will be forced to fly back to your country of origin if you do not have the pre-approved letter for picking up your Vietnam visa-upon-arrival at the airport.

Vietnamese travel agents and companies could help you arrange the pre-approved letter for picking up your visa-upon-arrival at the airport.
Serviced fee as you may also see in the Service fee column is the fee we charge for arranging the "Visa approval letter" for picking up your visa-upon-arrival at any Vietnam airport.

Yes you need Visa to access Vietnam. It's simple to get. You can get Vietnam Visa at immigration-vietnam.net

A 3rd party visa agent adds additional cost. Also be aware that getting a invitation letter for visa on arrival as opposed to a visa in your passport can lead to long delays in peak periods (especially at Tan Son Nhat Airport) as you have to collect your visa before proceeding through passport control.

The best and cheapest option is go to the Vietnam consulate or embassy or use one of the passport courier services to get it to the Canberra embassy or the Sydney consulate.

all you need is to fill in the form, get a money order or cheque, and send it off.

Came back pretty quickly from memory.

You can also do it online, and then you pick up your visa when you arrive in Saigon.

go to a travel agent and ask if they have a visa service. If I'm getting multiple visas I just get them to do it... usually costs $20-30

Just send it off to the consulate via platinum express with a money order and postmarked return bag. We sent ours on Monday and they came back on Thursday.
