I can understand if they want to keep the first release limited, but it does seem silly to not at least release a standard 2x vinyl album that everyone else can get their hands on. Unfortunately they have kind of shot themselves in the foot, they had plently of support and hype before the album release but only put out a limited run of 700 copies. This has lead to piracy balooning on the album already, it mainly seems to be the people who missed out on the vinyl and just want to be able to listen to the bloody thing.

Quick question, what software does Function use to play out, is it Ableton Live or Traktor? I've never actually seen the screen on his laptop.

Very frustrated by the lack of vinyl

Doesn't seem any reason to not release standard black 12"s like primal says.

Someone was saying like the SD style was boring and minimalistic and that it is basically a passing fad.

Listen to :"Hunting Lodge" my friend.

with the album, all i'd say is that SD is not a conventional entity, even if they have become much more popular.

hunting lodge, lol man listen to some earlier rob hood stuff on m-plant if you want this kinda stuff, hunting lodge in particular sounds like a track called e. dark on spectra ep, and for 100 euros this double ep sells for on discogs i can prolly get 5-6 rob hood records that sound fatter/better than this. 10 years ago kanzleramt boys use to push this sorta dark/minimal/deep yet funky techno, this is very similar kinda stuff but has no funk and grit in it. i'd rather 10 year old kanzleramt stuff thats raw, gritty and funky than this ableton sounding paperthin shit that really goes nowhere IMHO:whyioughtta. gimme heiko laux and johannes heil over this stuff any day.

mmm...I dunno man....the hoodmeister is definitely more analogue sounding, but hunting lodge is pretty cool in its own right. Ground breaking? No probably not. But still, its a hot track and the simlarities end with an emphasis on the 'and' between the 1 and the 2 and the 3 and the 4. But kudos to the SD boys, they set themselves up nicely with some faceless releases and fresh sounds and are reaping the rewards now. I say good on em.
As for faceless techno, I think its used as a marketing tool a lot for sure. Its all a bit smoke and mirrors sometimes but fuck it, sometimes thats the appeal and whatever.

As for Laux and Heil....fark me....how good. Still, IMO, SD stand in their own right.

i think faceless and limited edition are 2 different things, you can buy stuff from faceless labels/artists for cheap but as soon as you label something with limited edition tag it creates hype in no time, people quickly buy up which then creates a drought and just more hype and then prices skyrocket for shit thats really average at best. people dont realise that limited edition really means that its just pressed in limited numbers for the first pressing, the second pressing usually pops up a year or 2 later. and cause i only play vinyl it really shits me to see average stuff been peddled as limited just to get more hype/cash. vinyl is slowly dying a slow and painful death and to see wankers trying to cash in on it this way is fucked imo and i'm seeing more and more of this shit every day.

Yeah faceless and limited edition are different but reap the same result when used as a tool of hype and I'd argue that 'facelessnes' is in fact more hype enducing. One need only look at the WAX series, good choons, dont get me wrong, but the hype that came out of those releases before it was common knowledge that it was Shed was insane. There were rumours flying around left right and center about who it was, a common one being it was Maurizio etc etc. The mystique of the SD releases with nothing but a fax number. The reasons behind this is unknown to me. I dont know these artists and there motivations for such a thing. Their intentions may be very pure and 'underground' but as with all things pure, eventually, they get fucked.
My point being, unfortunately, I think faceless techno has once again become a fad and marketing tool, instead of a backlash against the commercialism that we saw not long ago.

sandwell is not faceless techno. it never has been. quite the opposite. i have no idea why people associate sandwell with faceless techno. it is fucking dumb. sandwell has a very clear & distinguishable aesthetic. they've never tried to hide their identities, we know who it is coming from.

as for the limited edition thing, well it ended up getting much more hype because of the delays, and those werent strategic, it was simply pressing plant problems.

and to put things perspective, regis doesn't even own a copy of the record!

delays or not limited edition hype marketing is pretty big, imo regis dont need no hype so why put it as limited edition, shit like that puts me off buying records even if they sound decent

dude. Im not saying that SD hid their identity, but the 'faceless' techno movement and its ideals goes beyond hidden identities, red masks, balaclavas etc etc.
..besides they have released stuff credited to artist 'Not applicable'. I know its all collabs and what not. yes we have always known where it comes from.
But like I said, if ya gonna put out releases with merely a fax number on the inlay and credit works to 'N/A', then you are touching on whats considered 'faceless' techno, Im sure they would even admit that. Bit its all good man, no one is saying its a bad thing. In fact I like the way they have handled it and been accessible. I've no doubt they dont use it as a marketing tool. But some I fear do.....thats whats dumb.

It really does annoy me when dickheads criticize music that is obviously amongst the very best of contemporary techno. It's a shame that they haven't released enough copies of their album on vinyl to meet demand, as I believe that they should reap the benefits of their work, and use the additional cash to finance any future SD or solo projects. However, its their shit and they can and will do as they like.

I wonder if this will be a live PA at Creamfields? Sideshow DJ or live PA for a double dose of Function/Regis would be incredible.
