Ok, lets start this thread off with a little class, a picture of the next bike i'm considering to buy.

I think the aluminium tank completes it nicely.

I really like that style of bike, but to do it justice I don't think you can wear a full-face helmet. It's a sacrifice I'm not willing to make.

Considering buying my mates cbr250r when he upgrades. (I've helped him pull it apart enough times now that I know my way around it) new yellow fairings on it, looks like bumblebee from tansformers.

(adding to the bike pr0n the 2010 litre ninja is fucking HOT)

Have you ridden it? If you really are big, it may not be the most comfortable of bikes for you.

Yeah, but I don't want a 'comfortable' old man bike either.

Believe it or not, there are options in between being squished up on a little 250 and a comfortable old man bike.

Grats man and welcome to the world of 2 wheels! Atleast the kawa should be trouble free where as who knows what problems you would face with a thrashed 20 year old cbr250.

Thanks dude!
I had that same thought when buying it..
CBR's are almost the same cost and as you said, 20 years older and most likely thrashed
I could pay 4gs for a decent CBR but over the next 2 years I could be up for another 2+gs maintaining it..
Insurance was also quite cheap on the
Im a good rider but havent riden on the road & with traffic before, what are the main points of advice you would give me?
Cheers

I think Romie would probably recommend against locking up the back wheel at 70km/h while approaching roundabouts

Assume everyone else on the road can't see you but is still out to kill you.

^As Duncan said. Ive only been riding for 6 months so i'm probably not the best person for advice as I just recently crashed stopping at a round about.

Have a quick look through this
http://www.netrider.net.au/forums/sh...ad.php?t=78401
http://www.netrider.net.au/forums/sh...ad.php?t=75135
http://www.netrider.net.au/forums/sh...ad.php?t=86546

To be honest if you have experience riding the best thing I ever did was watch the dvd "A Twist Of The Wrist" by Keith Code. You can easily "buy" this from many places online

Its taught me how to master cornering and the importance of throttle control and counter steering.

well my local mechanic had a quick look at the bike today and he said he is fairly certain just the bar mounts and all that shit will need to be readjusted. not bad 45$ to fix the bike after a low slide . sucks I fucked my work boots, pants and put a hole in my jacket though as that will cost a couple hundred . Motards FTW!

Had a full on brown undies moment on Wednesday in the rain. Was heading East along a main road in Melbourne (Alexandra Parade for those that know it) and was about 50m from a set of lights that normally stay green for ages due to the volume of traffic. They had only just gone green pretty much so I was doing about 50kph and the lights suddenly went amber - normally I have a set road position but this is three or four lane so was in the middle of the road. Anyway, I hesitated for a second then was at the lights and noticed a fucking red light camera so hit the anchors. Unfortunately due to being in the middle of the road I was on top of a huge white arrow and those ****s are well slippery in the wet - the bike fishtailed and went to slide away so *just* managed to catch it by easing off the brake and steering into the skid... emergency brake again and slide, slip and skid to a halt with my back wheel just over the white line but luckily not in traffic. I always deliberately avoid riding over the white arrows but the lights just caught me out this time.

Certainly got the blood pumping!

best thing to do in that situation is just go through man. If you enter the intersection on amber then the cam wont go off.

I had the same situation once but i was next to a cop car. I went through and was promptly pulled over. Told the cop that it was too dangerous to stop and she just gave me a warning then drove off.

Entering the market over the next couple of weeks. Has anyone had any good/bad experiences with http://betterbikes.com.au/ ? I get the vibe that they are a NSW version of Sumoto and have heard nothing but horror stories.
Look at them, ordinary fucking people, I hate them.

Randomly came across some concept ideas for futuristic motorbikes. Some cool yet incredibly outlandish designs.

Never heard of them, but in all reality I would recommend buying privately rather than from a dealer. A dealer is there to turn a profit, no other reason. Privately you can often pick up a bike much cheaper if you do proper research, and you can also sus out the bikes history. Rarely will you get a bikes history given to you by a dealer.

If they are anything like Sumoto, I would avoid for sure! Pack of rude c#nts they were.

I agree with Tang, buy private if you can. Usually cheaper and history on the bike is better obtained. Unless your're buying brand new that is.
