"1995: A 39 year old man committed suicide in Canberra, Australia by shooting himself three times with a pump action shotgun. The first shot passed through his chest and went out the other side. He reloaded and shot away his throat and part of his jaw. Breathing through the wound in his throat, he again reloaded, held the gun against his chest with his hands and operated the trigger with his toes. This shot entered the thoracic cavity and demolished the heart"

Fuck that is dedicated!

Not saying this is an interesting page, per se, but I just read the first sentance of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gnosticism and I have no idea what I read

Upcoming Picket Schedule

06/28/2010

6:15 PM - 7:00 PM

Owasso, OK Owasso High School 12901 E. 86th Street North WBC to picket a respectful distance from the funeral of Army Spc. Andrew R. Looney, to warn this nation of the dangers of promoting fag filth and of worshipping dead Doomed american soldiers. Anti-Christ Beast Obama has pledged to repeal DADT so the US military can be taken over by in-your-face sodomites, leading to this nation's full destruction. You will never win another war. You turned the nation over to the fags, and now your soldiers are coming home in body bags. You raised your children to be good for nothing but fodder for dirt-poor Afghani IEDs. When God punishes you for these sins, the LAST THING YOU SHOULD DO IS WORSHIP THAT DEAD CARCASS. If you want the soldiers to stop dying, OBEY GOD -- TODAY!! Nothing else will do!

picketing a fucking funeral?? classy.

Good example of the development of a myth, this one related to the Bermuda Triangle. Probably couldn't happen nowadays with technology bringing so much information and news to us at the drop of a hat. But back then, some author puts this in a book as some huge mystery, would be a huge effort to follow it up.

yeah, 30 years on death row, with the threat of death over you, that's a unique punishment on its own. I don't really know that much about the case and wouldn't pretend to know after only reading a wiki, but a lot of people are passionate about it on both sides.

Hate fuck the shit out of those two

I mean I consider myself a fairly open minded unbiased individual, it's scary how other people's views and opinions formulate yours if you're surrounded by that from a young age.

How can they even keep a straight face while saying what they're saying? I thought they were being sarcastic the entire time, or even ironic. But no, they were serious.

Josephine Baker
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josephine_Baker

"Baker was the first African American to star in a major motion picture, to integrate an American concert hall, and to become a world-famous entertainer. She is also noted for her contributions to the Civil Rights Movement in the United States (she was offered the unofficial leadership of the movement by Coretta Scott King in 1968 following Martin Luther King, Jr.'s assassination, but turned it down[3]), for assisting the French Resistance during World War II[4] and for being the first American-born woman to receive the French military honor, the Croix de Guerre."

Japanese-American Iwo Jima & Operation Grapeshot veteran, Medal of Honor recipient, US Senator for Hawaii since 1962.

Daniel Inouye, total badass.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Inouye

Quote:

On April 21, 1945, Inouye was grievously wounded while leading an assault on a heavily-defended ridge near Terenzo called Colle Musatello. The ridge served as a strongpoint along the strip of German fortifications known as the Gothic Line, which represented the last and most dogged line of German defensive works in Italy. As he led his platoon in a flanking maneuver, three German machine guns opened fire from covered positions just 40 yards away, pinning his men to the ground. Inouye stood up to attack and was shot in the stomach; ignoring his wound, he proceeded to attack and destroy the first machine gun nest with hand grenades and fire from his M1 Thompson submachine gun. After being informed of the severity of his wound by his platoon sergeant, he refused treatment and rallied his men for an attack on the second machine gun position, which he also successfully destroyed before collapsing from blood loss.

As his squad distracted the third machine gunner, Inouye crawled toward the final bunker, eventually drawing within 10 yards. As he raised himself up and cocked his arm to throw his last grenade into the fighting position, a German inside fired a rifle grenade that struck him on the right elbow, severing most of his arm and leaving the primed grenade reflexively "clenched in a fist that suddenly didn't belong to me anymore". Inouye's horrified soldiers moved to his aid, but he shouted for them to keep back out of fear his severed fist would involuntarily relax and drop the grenade. As the German inside the bunker reloaded his rifle, Inouye managed to pry the live grenade from his useless right hand and transfer it to his left. As the German aimed his rifle to finish him off, Inouye managed at last to toss the grenade off-hand into the bunker and destroy it. He stumbled to his feet and continued forward, silencing the last German resistance with a one-handed burst from his Thompson before being wounded in the leg and tumbling unconscious to the bottom of the ridge. When he awoke to see the concerned men of his platoon hovering over him, his only comment before being carried away was to gruffly order them return to their positions, since, as he pointed out, "nobody had called off the war".

Cheers. My brother has a torrent of that, I'll have to get it off him. Would love to hear his story from his own mouth!

What makes Inouye even cooler is that he's now President pro Tempore of the United States, which makes him 4th in line to presidential succession. If Obama, Biden & Pelosi copped it, he's in charge.

Our Equivalent:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_Jacka

Quote:

On 19 May 1915, the Turks launched an assault against the Anzac Line, capturing a section of the trench at Courtney’s Post; one end of which was guarded by Jacka.[5] For several minutes he fired warning shots into the trench wall until reinforcements arrived, after which he attempted to enter the trench with three others; all but Jacka were either wounded or pinned.[5] It was then decided that while a feint attack was made from the same end, Jacka would attack from the rear. The party then proceeded to engage the Turks with rifle fire, throwing in two bombs as Jacka skirted around to attack from the flank. He climbed out onto "no man's land", entering the trench via the parapet. In the resulting conflict, Jacka shot five and bayoneted two Turkish soldiers, forcing the remainder to flee the trench;[6] he then held the trench alone for the remainder of the night. Jacka’s platoon commander, Lieutenant Crabbe, informed him the following morning that he would be recommended for his bravery.[7]

Quote:

In September, 1929, he was elected to the St Kilda Council, becoming mayor the following year. Much of his civic work was characterised by his strong interest in assisting the unemployed.

Someone posted this a year or two ago in another thread and it still freaks me out...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fatal_familial_insomnia

Fatal familial insomnia (FFI) is a very rare autosomal dominant inherited prion disease of the brain. It is almost always caused by a mutation to the protein PrPC, but it can also develop spontaneously in patients without the inherited mutation in a variant called sporadic fatal insomnia (SFI). The mutated protein, called PrPSc, has been found in just 40 families worldwide, affecting about 100 people; if only one parent has the gene, the offspring have a 50% chance of inheriting it and developing the disease. The disease's genesis and the patient's progression into complete sleeplessness is untreatable and ultimately fatal.[1]

Graham Barker of Perth, Western Australia, is in the Guinness Book of Records as the record holder for collecting navel lint. He has been collecting navel lint almost every day for over 20 years since 17 January 1984. He collects about 3.03 mg per day. Contrary to the research of Dr. Kruszelnicki, his lint was in a particular shade of red[4] for six years and then turned green, correlating with a change of his bath towels from red to green.[5]
The cheese is old and moldy. Where is the bathroom?
