Rumours I've heard was that sushi suma was going down hill but it used to be fkn amazing for great value and fresh food.

Perhaps check the usual sites for recent reviews.

It's not a romantic dinner restaurant, go to toko or sake for that, but whenever we have gone there with a big group, enough wine to sink a battleship we've had a good time. I don't get all the comments about rude staff either, they've been fine with us.

I went to The Pier restaurant last night for my b'day dinner.

They are doing a $79 three course special at the moment and i would highly recommend it. The food and setting are was amazing. Wine list is very good.

Interesting to compare it to Bistro Moncur which i ate at a few weeks ago. The food was out of sight better at The Pier, and we were paying similar prices. It would be more expensive overall without the $79 special though.

Golden is the only place I know of that doesn't ask if you want fries or hummus with your meal that late.

Want to dust off a good bottle of wine with a friend over a meal and Friday lunch is looking like the only real alternative. Anyone know of a restaurant (ideally steak) that will do byo and decant it on Friday lunches?

Saturday went to himilayan char grill in glebe (a Nepalese restaurant). Soooo insanely good, only cost like 35 bucks each and that was main entree and sides.

Seriously one of the best restaurants ive been too. Amazing, every dish was great!

Went back to Arras for the Mr's bday last month. Haven't been there since they changed locations. Amazing as expected and the perfect birthday surprise. Did the degustation with matching wines and it was fantastic!

Was the day after Valentine's so restaurant was empty and we had the entire place to ourselves for the first hour or so. As a result the 3 staff were super attentive and had plenty of time to talk through the dishes and the wine in detail (which they do already anyway even when they are busier).

Also enjoyed that it could be a higher end experience but the staff were happy to relax down to our level (if that makes sense?) and join in on jokes. As much as I can enjoy fine dining, I don't like to be pretentious about it and take it too seriously, which I've had experience with from staff in other restaurants.

Highlights were the "salt and vinegar crisps" (vinegar icecream with fruit sliced super thin and salted), the pickled vegetable salad, the tuna and the duck.

Went there last time I was in Sydney. Food was average at best and over priced. Seemed to be an over abundance of spam on the menu too? Guess they've had to adjust to the economic situation in the mother country.

Sydney peeps; can anyone recommend a place for my boy's birthday dinner? He's not too into the fine-dining experience, so looking for alternatives, ie. delicious, decent sized servings and good wine list (cocktails also a bonus). No real budget, CBD/Eastern subs preferred.

Thx

If you're on the Sunshine Coast for a holiday etc, take a trip to this place... outstanding venue and the food was excellent. The cooking school looked pretty sweet too.

too many vegies, not enough meat

yeah, I think I'll just start scanning through BYO's and pick one that looks reasonable.

NFI if they are cheap or cater to vego's but two that spring to mind as good casual places. Fix St. James obviously a lot closer... [on inspection of the menu....] fish is a vegetable, isn't it?

perhaps ring, most chefs are only too happy to cater for a vego because it means trying something different/new.

Cheap, for that end of town. I considered GPO but downstairs it's a bit meh... maybe the cheese room?

Anywhere not shit is probably booked up pretty solid by now.

good choice.

even the Australian although I don't think there's too many vego options. what's the change like? I quite liked it up there looking a bit ragged.

Is cockatoo island opening up again this summer? That would be a fucking hum-dinga of a place for a Christmas lunch. Forget the food, just buy jugs of pimms and soda.

Like this, it's not too bad at all now and they've also sacked off the accommodation on the middle floors and made it all smaller function
