1) Ignorance of the law is not an excuse. "Or sorry officer, I didn't know it was illegal to shoot people in the head.
2) If you're working full time or getting paid as a DJ, you probably have a few clams to spend each week on new tracks.
3) On TV. Free to Air TV distributed for personal use is legal. There are certain grey areas when it comes to certain series though.
4) When you play at a club to people, the club takes care of APRA fees. A good DJ will sort out private party APRA fees and such.
5) With a torrent program, the ISP can hardly track what the data you're downloading is, only where it came from is going to.
6) Ripping off youtube is like recording using a handheld for the radio. If I upload a track it's going to be compressed and worse. No questions asked. It's one of the ways youtube has millions of videos at a time.

Exactly, and while a program might make the files size up to that of a 320K MP3, it ain't going to actually be a 320K MP3...you've just chunked up the file size without actually increasing the quality

You're the reason why people like me can't write music for a living. Because you assume you're entitled to anything and everything. Go off and do a day full of work and realise the stuff you're taking people have spent at least ten times as much time on as you spent on that single day...

In the future, I'll just get you to build houses for me and not pay you. Seems like a good deal.

There is $100 on the lawn of a house, as your walking past you see it. All of you will walk right over to the note and pick it up. which is the same concept.

even thought someone else worked hard for it and it is on someone elses lawn you will still take it.

It's just nature for humans to want stuff for free.

That's a more than unlikely case. How about this.

How about, situation 1. You are a faggot commericial rnb dj and since you have no skills at all you have to download the latest lady gaga / justin bieber mash up in order to get gigs at some shitty club that doesn't even have turntables

Situation 2. You mix everyday when u get home from work because you love it and buying tracks and djing out just flows on from your passion

That's not really an apt comparison.
You can keep trying to justify it but in the end theres nothing acceptable about stealing music and using it to make money for yourself.

It's not always, some are legally free to download, but many are not. This certainly shows up the hypocrites that have admitted to it though.

Movies are a fucking rip off and the stars/executives/producers/directors make far FAR too much money
TV shows end on free to air TV at some stage

(yes, not a real justification, but it works, don't it?)

The music we love never ends up on free to air radio (bar some random time some random DJ spins that tune on some random internet radion station you've never heard of and thus weren't listening to it to hear it) and the producers make jack diddly squat from the sales, but it's still nice to support them in any way you can. Producing is a means to get known, get gigs, get tours...if anyone thinks that producers make money off digital sales, like money enough to make a living from only that, you're fucking dreaming...perhaps the .0001% of producers who sell their soul and make ratshit commercial music

You guys are delusional if you think the general population (aside from dj's) actually pay for music.

Gurantee if you walk up to anyone in the street with an ipod and ask them where they got there music from 99.999999999999999% will say they downloaded ilegally. (Not in those words obviously)

I could even bet to say majority of DJ's download illegally too, people on this forum saying they dont illegally download are an extreme minority.

And illegal downloads either movies and music is the same thing.... so everyone here has done it.

no, that's bullshit, you and your schoolyard friends are not everyone. Not 'we' either, you just tried to justify your own piracy.

Anyway, have fun mixing with your jb hifi mix cd's.

Excuse me?

I buy mix cd's, Balance series, Fabric etc etc, instead of downloading them off the net.

I mix with vinyl and my legaly purchased tracks from sites.

Sure there is a lot of vinyl lovers/collectors, and people buying tracks legaly (myself included) but 90% of young DJ's coming through pirate their tracks. Go to Google, type Free MP3 blog dance music and you will get thousands of hits, all readily available, easy to download for free.

I know a few young DJ's (under 18's) who have whole collections of stolen music. I hate it, but it's the reality. Not much we can really do about it though.
