Speaking of the ITM contributors poll of the best albums of that last decdade, I've got The Avalanches - Since I Left You on vinyl.

http://www.discogs.com/Avalanches-Si.../release/67789

And it's unopened as yet. I think I might leave it that way as well.

Absolutely seminal album! Would love that on wax, but I was new to wax collecting then and was too hung up on 12" singles for DJing, didn't really appreciate the notion of having an album on wax. Had it on CD for donkeys years and would easily be in my top 5 of re-listened to CDs. From go to woe it's just a seamless blend of gorgeousness!

Bought it when I was just in a record shop and they were playing it at the time...heard about 5-10mins of it and just knew I'd love it!
Pete Gordon - Deep and Low

Slower tempo but still with balls, deephouse, slow-mo, futurehouse, nudeep, indie, nudisco, hints of progressive, whatever the fuck you want to call it, just good shit! Get on it

i spent saturday night helping a friend go through several boxes of records acquired from her dad recently ... sorting the trash from the treasure .

essentially rock/pop ... must have most of the Frank Zappa releases in there ... and Brian Eno ... plenty of other gems too and all in tip top condition (well the ones that weren't water damaged anyway).

Kinda makes me think about having kids ... someone has to inherit my collection eventually

I have to do the same in the next few months with my old man...there are some treasures in that collection...fucking huge too. Signed copies of Thin Lizzy records, First press Santana albums from 1969, unopened first press of Dark Side of the Moon...heaps and heaps of Zappa...fuck I can't wait to go through it properly.

Unopened first press of DSOTM?!?!? Tasty!

I found the 7" of Europe's "The Final Countdown" on Sunday...best $3 spent ever!!!

Doo do do do...do do do-do-doooooo

Enjoy having that song now stuck in your head!

The following is a guide to identifying all the elements that make up the the rare and much sought after first pressing:

1. The label has a solid blue prism. Subsequent pressings have a blue glowing inner edge prism with the centre black.
2. 'The Gramophone Co.' text is centred on label above prism.
3. A2/B2 matrix in deadwax of run out groove.
4. Thick heavyweight vinyl believed by some to be the 'finest' and most true encapsulation of this historical recording as the first pressing was pressed direct from the original masterplate. "These 1st pressings were straight from the masters and nothing even gets close to them today. They play with a deep clear warm clarity and have to be heard to be believed!".
5. There is a distinct bluish tint/tinge in the black ink of the cover.
6. Gatefold sleeve is 'folded in' and factory sealed at one end. [To identify the original the cover must have the 'folded in' flap and not just be two sides 'glued' together].
7. Inner sleeve is a distinctive polythene lined die cut black semi matt paper with white printed text stating 2 patent numbers bottom left [112555/1072844] and 'MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN' bottom right.
8. Posters and stickers were printed on paper stock that has a rough texture (later pressings used paper that was gloss laminated).
9. Stickers have printed backs with diagonal lines across them.

so you won't actually know if it is unless you break that seal!

Nice...just found a $6 copy of this...

...which contains this track...

...only in VG+ condition, but that's still more than playable, and I've seldom seen this EP selling for less than $30 USD...in worse condition!

Arrived in the mail.

Sasha - Xpander is in MINT condition, sounds like the only time it's ever been played is the one time I've listened to it . Will be putting that away and only listening on special occasions. The rest are very good or near mint condition apart from Breeder - Tyrantanic which crackles like a BITCH.

Sometimes that's just bad pressing rather than bad care...I've had a brand spanking new Bedrock release (Chable's - Melburn) which I had to complain about and get replacement coz it was so bad.

My Ninja Tune XX Boxset arrived the this week.... it is seriously the best thing I have ever seen! So much detail, such high quality.
And what I didn't know is that with the boxset you get a unique code to redeem, totally free, a high quality download of King Cannibal's 'The Way Of The Ninja' and another 2 limited edition 12"'s with music that will only be available on that release!

Here's a pic of the initial unboxing

Not a particularly rare or nostalgic record but who ever printed the labels had obviously never heard of Deadmau5 and a little miscommunication occurred

Hey guys,

So my collection is hitting 1000 and have realised its in a mess. How do you guys organise you collections? I'm about to tackle it but want to do it right

Was thinking

Genre, then Label.....?

generally by genre ... but then there's more than a few grey areas here ... do the housey breaks go with the breaks or the house?!

Does the Rabbit in the Moon releases go with the prog or the trance?!

hip hop generally goes by BPM ... breaks go by style (all the boots go together)

i've got at least 2 crates of dubstep and that's a headache in itself sometimes.

all in all they're in a lot of chaos just now ... i'd pay someone to sort them out but wouldn't know where to find things then ;P

I'd hardly call mine a collection... but when it does grow in the coming years I think I'd go with Genre > Label. I think that way it's easier to find a 'sound' you're looking for if you haven't got a particular track in mind to play next. And I've got one of those ikea cabinets which are also really handy for splitting stuff up

i had the very good fortune of a friend offering his small but select vinyl collection for me to pillage ... i think i took almost half the records ...

Highlights for me:
Death In Vegas - Dead Elvis (i forgot how much i loved their work)
Henry Rollins - Sweatbox (3 x 12" from 1989 ... all spoken word)
Yello - Oh Yea 12"
Krafty Kuts - Slam on the Breaks (first Krafty Kuts mix/compilation from 1999. CD version is mixed ... this 3 x 12" ain't. Chock full of killer tracks!)

Packaging wise though, this is the highlight (It's a decent album but i think i prefer the packaging over the music on this one)

hands down the best way to organise records is autobiographically.

Yeah it's a dope mix of his stuff and includes Rockit as well. This would have be my second copy but I can't find the other copy I had only the sleeve = [

It's good to play when your drunk as fvck cos it's like 8 or 12 mins? and you can just scratch over it and people think you're awesome.

"Wow dude you're so cool"
"Bro can you please stand behind the decks for a bit I think I need to take a shit"
