how do you know it unpredictable ?

I am on my 35th year of mobile Djing and I have no worries getting work
club djs burn out after a certain period because they get too old and cant keep up with a club
do you ever see a 60 year old club Dj
you certainly see a 60year old mobile Dj
even with radio dj's, you dont know how old these guys are till you see them

so whats so bad at mobile work after club djing or learning mobile work young then doing clubs till you burn out

I gave clubs up in 1994 when the mobile work provided me with 5x the money
than a club ever did - but you can do a lot more with mobile work and make a decent living from it!

its all up to how you look at it....
you want to stay and retire early or go on to do a lot more!

then have a nice day...

^^ I think the part you quoted was referring to club dj's. But maybe you could give me a quick idea of your costs interms of licensing etc djdennis? All the copy right laws seem confusing.

lol tell me about it they just introduced a new licence so thats one I have limited knowledge on so far

but what ones I have are yearly

i'll get all the details and post them online as I am repairing some computers for a bus company (nightcruiser)
I also do the music for the busses and loads more (this is where other mobile dj aspects come in handy)

http://nightcruiser.trebleclefdj.com.au

later!

Mobile DJs and club DJ's are very different. One's a job that can be well paying if you work hard, and one's an expensive yet fun hobby that can pay off if you're one of the lucky few who make it big.

TBH, I think it's fun having your normal job, and then playing out at clubs or house parties on the weekend, or attending gigs and being in the audience. Maybe having a radio show is the way to play music and get paid, yet not always be up at a stupid hour of the night.... (cept if it's JJJ's mixup, that job would ruin your social life!)

I spotted the problem right there for you

Mobile DJing is for LOSERS, the real money is in the $20-$50. pay as you enter parties. All you need is a venue that sells alcohol and if you've got good music your set. You're only overheads are the Venue hire, Advertising, Security Hire and then just have about $1,500. in $10. notes for change. I think people are just interested in a place where they can get shit-faced on alcohol and other substances and a pay as you enter party just represents an excuse for them to do so. Do the maths 100 people rock up paying $20. = $2,000. you'd have to be a ???? not to make any money.

Oh if the venue doesn't sell alcohol, you're screwed. The presence of all of the alcoholics and druggies is the key to getting a good return on your initial investment otherwise you're just wasting your time.

random venue like when they host say a big day out ?

or random venue (like a hall) that someone is rasing money for a sick kid and they have some club djs that
play music where all the door money goes to help that sick kid!

ok thats random

oh random where they are raisng money for flood victims in Queensland
so you wouldnt go there and pay $20 or $40 to help out

ok I see how that is

Well obviously not you huh, the only random venue's that you'd go to is that those places where you're not a LOSER, like your local gay bar or an alley and you pay $20. to get (pound me, give it to me) pounded.

A good venue is just your local nightclub that you can hire out (or keep the door takings) where everyone goes anyway. When running parties most DJs that work today have a status list of people that regularly go to their gigs so they're always good to work with for a wage/cut and another good thing to do is to invite "Trend Setters" for free which are Social Resources Hotties, Sports Stars and those Special (talented) people that rock up with 10- 20 friends that follow them around because they think they're cool. Also some Economic Resources (rich kids) also have a social following (like other rich kids), so its good to be friendly with them and invite them for free as well. Lastly Ethnic Groups are another good social resource to use (ie Greeks, Indians ect.) by just being friendly to the leader of their social group and pretending that you give a shit about their social/cultural/economic issues, you don't even have to let the Ethnic social resources in for free because once they think that a person of your status gives a shit about them they'll just support you, like they're hommies and your tight with their group or some shit.

anyway, random venue = a big fat no for most people I know, unless there's a killer headliner, or a cause where you won't be keeping any of the profits, no one will want to pay that much

If it were in a random place with big acts or artists that I wanted to see sure I'd pay $20, But if it was a random place with Dj Dennis head lining there's no way I'd even pay $10

Only LOSERS (ie: Aboriginies) do the Mobile DJ scene with their free USB installed Portable DJ Software and their free music collections. Most of the LOSERS have the latest Virtual DJ Free Home Version V7.0.2 installed on their computer because its FREE, then the LOSERS DJ using their mouse and their favourite button is the "Sync" button just before they crossfade with their mouse.

So the Mobile DJ scene is really the LOSER scene. Hey LOSERS just don't give up your minimum wage day job, I think the LOSERS should stick to minimum wage farm work or the dole instead of pretending to be awesome USB free DJing on their PC or with their LOSER DJ deck with a built in mixer.

As for Club DJs I think that there is a preogression from Club DJ to Pay to Enter Trance/House Parties then depending on their Social or Economic circumstances but mainly their level of (or lack of) Higher Education they become the Mobile DJ LOSER that DJs at those Parties that you hear about but never actually attend, they get to compete with the 1000's of teenage free USB software/music DJs out there that DJ their friends parties for free.

lots cause i have a killer day job that i love and pays damn well so i get to enjoy djing for what it is. fun and nothing more.

tbh if i was djing for a living it would become far to much like work instead of a way to enjoy myself, plus there is no way i could make a living out of it in my style of music without selling my soul and becoming a fucking mobidisk wanker for hire. apparantly that turns you into a angry little man (which is well proven in this thread imo)

my 2 cents
true, mobile dj is a good way to get steady work. but you are not really a DJ in the "artist" sense, you are in effect just a human jukebox.
club djing is a 'who you know' business and hard to make a living from it, but a proper dj is a creative artist.
the two are complete polar opposites.
......then there's douchebags like mixtrack ultimate dj
who are just dicks
