Would it be a worthy choice for replacing my Pioneer set up, 2x CDJ1000mk3 and DJM700 for this?

I mix all types of music, top40 to Drum n Bass etc

no

just get Traktor Scratch Pro & an X1 if you want to go digital - it'll end up the same price, and you'll be using hardware you're used to (and will be more club friendly)

yeh, i agree

i don't really care what any 'expert' says, but it really is a better option to have a 'hybrid' setup that is portable enough to plug into almost any club rig. make it easier on yourself and try not to invest too much $$ into gear that is not portable or takes up a lot of booth space because you might find yourself in a position where setting up becomes difficult.

Then again having a setup that fits into a backpack is good for when you just want to rock up at a bar or lounge that has a PA but no installed club equipment, as you can plug in and play easily.

true - that's why i got a faderfox (this new traktor system looks much better tho)

but i still think you need to use it with a sound card

it does have a built-in soundcard, a mighty good one as well (24-bit / 96 khz)

also you can plug turntables in and use the timecode vinyls to control 2 of the decks (in a future update they said) - thats why they have those two phono inputs at the back

these numbers really mean nothing in terms of audio quality... there's 16/44.1 interfaces that will pwn the crap out of your average 24/96 box...

but yes, the S4 system is handy for mobile DJs who don't want to bring along a pair of CDJs/turnies + mixer (And all the associated cables/cases/stands) to every gig, or for someone just messing around at home, but takes a DVS rig to a club....

Meh…I’m beginning to wonder, with all these new gizmo’s and people running loops and samples and what not, when did it cease to be OK to just PLAY GOOD TRACKS?

Would much rather take the time to learn to produce you own music, and re-produce it live, than fuck around with something like this.
Pete Gordon - Deep and Low

Slower tempo but still with balls, deephouse, slow-mo, futurehouse, nudeep, indie, nudisco, hints of progressive, whatever the fuck you want to call it, just good shit! Get on it

I guess it gives people the feeling that they're being creative and not "just playing someone else's music"

It's a 2 edge sword though ... on one side you can do "remixes" on the fly and even create whole new tracks from small parts of other tracks (or other samples/instrument sound you've loaded) ... on the other side, there's forgetting about just playing tunes to create a vibe and a flow.

It's fun looping and filtering shit ... but i get equal satisfaction from simply playing a few records.

This is what I have been waiting for. Perfect for the smaller bar and ounge gigs. I cart around 2 turntables and a mixer and laptop, to use with traktor scracth, this replaces all that. And you could useit in a proper club too, just plug outputs into inputs on main mixer.

I like the concept, just not a fan of closed systems....different if you could use this controller with other applications i.e ableton, however, without that flexibility it's a tool for a single purpose.....I rate it in terms of design though.

I am pretty keen to get this as my main gig rig. At first I just wanted a new toy to play with but the more I think about it I think it will be ace.

Can just stand to the side setting up my lappy etc and then just plug the output into the main mixer so no interfering the DJ playing or having to play my first 2 filler songs while I fuck around plugging in Traktor to the main mixer as I have to now.

Then sell my CDJs at home get TT's back and rid myself of ever having to use a CDJ again

It all makes sense in my head anyway.

you CAN use it with Ableton - actually it's got MIDI capabilities as well. all the NI stuff is cross-application configurable which is why their stuff is gaining more appeal

Yeh dude, already have Traktor Pro but this thing suits what we (I play with a mate) have in mind when playing out. He will be on that while I'll be on Maschine. I wouldn't even call it DJing, nor is it really a "live" setup by my books even though we want it to end up just being a big jam session when we play. I'm a drummer and a producer and mixing has never really inspired me too much, always have wanted to create stuff on the fly so I think this will be a pretty integral part of that.

Nice one mate! I think the S4 will cetainly help with the creativity side of things an looks like the perfect peice of kit for you! what sought of music you mixing/producing?

Ive just got a traditional setup at home an think this could add a lot of fun to what i do! dont care about the Sync just the possibilities this little beast could add to my mix

I want this badly but $1299 is frankly ridiculous. A price point of $999 would've been more realistic, tbh.

I think it's actually a very reasonable price. Traktor scratch pro is retailing at $859 atm on storedj. For $440 more you get the latest version of traktor and a hardware controller built specifically for it. I guess the soundcard is an integrated part and you could see more use out of the audio 8 in that package, but meh.

$1299 *might* be the RRP, but since when do DJ stores ever sell at the RRP?

looking forward to the software upgrade, just got TSP last week (was planning on waiting, but found a deal I couldn't resist) so hopefully it's not too expensive.

Getting more excited the more I see of this. Dam the X1 getting me into all this digital thinking.

There is a downside on the price of this in terms of purchase ex US- the size and weight will make postage quite pricey! And if the value of the item plus shipping exceeds $1000AU customs will slap you with duties and GST before you can collect it! Which will be a factor to consider if you purchase out of aus on this!

So long as it's shipped as a gift ior with a value listed as about half it may be an issue!

Pretty sure the DJTT guys would help in this dept tho!

999.00 USD = 1,029.89 AUD

which is fucking good.
might e-mail them about shipping...or has someone beat me to that?
cause if its around $100 its still worthwhile buying it O/S

EDIT: I've e-mailed them...will let you know what DJTT says

I bought a custom VCI100 from them in the past. Its heavier than the S4 though it was nowhere near the price of it. I paid $50 to ship it express (came in 2 days). I reckon it will be similar, Ean looks after us guys down here

I'm tempted to buy this...just to get rid of my cdj's...

Whithout looking too far in to it..is there a way of having this set up with Traktor, then having my TT's running through the same system (to play vinyl, not DVS)...

The controller itself is $899. Shipping prices and time vary depending on which service you select. It usually costs between $50-$65 and takes 5-10 days. The best way to figure out how much it will cost to ship is to start the checkout process and enter your address. You will be given the shipping price before you are asked to pay. Import taxes vary by country but are usually around 15%-20% of the stated value. We will state the S4 is between $500-$600 to help keep taxes low

Sold!

Power supply matters on these!

The power supply is critical on this one! It runs in an inferior mode if run on USB only so it's worth tryin to get it with the aus power adapter supplied!

The power supply will be easy to replace however as I'm certain it will be the external converter type (voltage goes from 240 to 6V outside the controller) like a mobile phone charger so you won't be getting a controller thats 110V only if you buy ex us! The euro models will be 240-250v straight up however!

So long as the actual power plug is a standard size replacement assigned can be had off eBay easily and cheaply!
