René Pawlowitz (Shed / Wax / EQD / The Panamax Project)

Probably the most inspiring techno producer of the last few years. Now with his new album The Traveller dropping today, I thought it would be appropriate to give this guy a proper thread of his own.

You can stream the new album in full here

New album is imo simply stunning, has not tried to make a Shedding The Past Pt2. He simply does what he does best. Push boundaries and does not rest on his laurels.

If someone manages to bring him out here for a full live set, consider my balls to be tingling.

Yep. The main pushes the envelope just enough in my opinion, but never too much that you end up lost. Right now, I think this dude is in a league of his own for this type of work.

^^^agree. Normally the music that hits >that< spot for me is not usually stuff I can play out. Shed tunes are ultra-playable and chinstroke-able at the same time. A rare combo.

yep. a truly horrible idea. this is what i wrote about it:

"
Probably my biggest complaint about the release has nothing to do with the music itself. For some reason unknown to me, Ostgut decided to include part of the press release for the album on the back of the CD case. It reads:

“Does techno music really need the album format? Let‘s put it differently: can techno work outside the established boundaries of the 12“? A look back into history shows little convincing examples. Dancefloor tracks, made for DJ’s, follow a structure which require a damn perfect dancefloor in your living room in order to adequately absorb that very energy. A good album must offer more than a couple of dancefloor anthems, mixed with some ambient interludes and the obligatory downbeat experiment, has to be more substantial than a paint-box for your euphoric memories of perfect nights long gone.”

I would rephrase the opening question by T.H. (who wrote this):

“Does an album like this really need to justify itself with a shitty promo write up?”

I’ll give you an answer for that question too:

No.

The beauty of Shed’s music is that it speaks for itself. There is no point inflating it with bullshit promo spin, or trying to push long answers out of him in interviews. Just listen to his music, and look at what he does: I think most, if not all, of what Shed is trying to express can be found there. And as far as I’m concerned, the most important role Shed plays in techno comes not from his releases, even though they are of the highest caliber. It is the example he sets:

Don't try to ride trends, don't try to be something you are not, don't worry about pleasing everyone, don't follow. Be true yourself and your own sounds, forge your own path.

Take soloaction."

Profound words Disco. Haven't had the chance to listen to this album yet, but if it has anything on 'shedding the past' or the extraordinary Shed mnmlssg mix then I'm sold without any bull**** writeup on the CD case.

Hey guys,

Thought I'd tell you about this very nice live set of Shed's I found from Sonar Festival 2009. Yeah, I know it's a little old and many of you may have it, but I've been listening to it every day for the last week and it's a cracker!!!

Shed live @ Sonar Festival 20-06-2009

Also, if any one can I'd the track from 39 min in (with the vocal sample - 'so move your body") I would be most appreciative!

Brag post. I saw Shed play live at Berghain in Berlin in August, and at Cable in London a couple of weeks back, both being the launch parties for his 'The Traveller' album, bought the CD at Berghain on the night. Both parties also had Surgeon play too, so much awesome music.

Cheers Body Language Very much appreciated. I love that track and I'm grateful for the ID.

If anyone's interested I found this awesome live set by Shed (under the EQD guise). I've got it on high rotation at the moment. This dude sure does smash it!

It's "Power House" alright. The B side is a beast too, a similar sound to the A side of EQD003 (at least the middle of the song, after the high hats kick in) but with a thumping kick.

It's a love thing is just ridiculously good. Proper party track

4004 is possibly my favourite of the waxes as well. Actually... hard to pick. There's now a wax for every occasion.

It is my talk back radio alias.

Bruno is my middle name (which I quite like) and I live a few minutes walk from Burwood train station. I'd use my suburb but after rezoning it is a bit of a crock and makes it sound like we are trying to be more than we are as humble residents of Alonso Street.
