The thing he prides himself on is not changing his sound to suit the masses. His sound is going to change over time as all music does. It's called progression.
Stop analyzing shit and just enjoy some quality music.
I’m not having a go at J00F, I’m simply stating the options he has to get to point A (Where he currently is) to Point B (Where he wants to be).
To poll in the top DJ you must create a product that is marketable to the masses, Armin Van Buuren is a great example. Hundreds of talented producers/ Dj’s have to decide whether they stay producing an unpopular/underground sound or they start producing a commercial sound, they understand the sacrifices they need to make to become the artist they want to be, J00F is no exception.
J00F has made sacrifices just as Armin Van Buuren has. J00F believes it should be based on talent not numbers, yet it is based on numbers whoever you are in the music industry, it’s the game.
If you don’t accept it and believe it’s based on talent, you may as well audition for Australia’s Got Talent, but even then the judges make their decisions based on whether you are commercially marketable or not.
My point is that it’s a compromise. You can be (50%) Underground and (50%) Commercial but you can’t be 100% of both. The more commercial the more profit you make the more money you can spend on promoting underground music. The more underground the less profit, the less you can spend on promoting underground music.
I think he is asking his fans what option should he take? Because he is dead set on getting to point B.
Honestly if he decides to enter the poll on DJ MAG he has my full support. I see that he is selfless in his dedication to his fans and trance music, the major financial sacrifices he has made for his fans and trance music (compared to commercially successful artists eg. Armin Van Buuren). He has kept the flame of underground trance burning brightly. He needs more support to finance his plans to promote “specialist” music; I completely understand and I applaud it.
