I won the fmf jackpot from itm...5 tix to the side show, and with my dire financial state I wouldn't have been able to attend. Hence the thanks.

I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank Jarrad for starting this thread, thus ensuing that Richie Hawtin played a side show in Sydney.

Good set from Mr Hawtin, followed up by an epic Plastikman performance at Future

i was up front center most of hawtins set then about 2/3 way into it, i felt he just started lacking.

havent heard him play that funky before and dont think its his best.

he was much better at fmf in 08, maybe its cause he has his plastikman head screwed on at the moment.

still had a fun night in the end though and was great to see him (and his hair) back!

would definately see him again in a heartbeat though.

Hawtin was boring, as I was expecting, Vath killed him with his first 30 minutes.

Keep all your technology, two turntables and a mixer with a bag full of vinyl is where it's at.

Agreed.. actually found Hawtin a bit boring and repetitive (I know I know..) and Vath was great but I preferred him last year.

Still a good night all round
...what does that even mean?!

Ha, no shit?

It's Richie Hawtin, he plays boring a repetitive music.. Not sure why everyone freaks on about him?
Vath on the other hand is a loose canon who just loves good music, thus will always be entertaining..

Too much hype on this one defo..

i thought the night was ok

hawtin was ok- have seen him play better b4 at future he was better and more glithcy. i think he didnt unleash the dragon becuase he was playing first. if he played last he would of been better. i just wish he wouldnt use an echo on almost every track

vath- thought it was average. prob the worst i have seen him. his music did nothing for me. and he was more interested in chatting up the chicks.

the crowd was great tho when hawtin come on the vibe was excellent and everyone was up for it. it was a well put on night. the sound quality was good when high on the dancefloor in places it was a bit bass heavy

villa was better a few months ago

Rad night.
Really enjoyed Hawtin!! Dance floor was packed and everyone looked like they were enjoying.
Vath started a bit meh and I made the mistake of going outside and deciding 3am = tired = home time.

Funny comments here - half the people liked hawtin, half liked vath.

Got there about 12.15, huge queue that went really quickly which was odd. Perhaps everyone decided to turn up at the same time? It certainly didn't appear that security were arsing around that much.

So packed inside but luckily mates had secured a nice little area on the right hand side away from the entrance just up the steps, so had a good vantage point.

Wouldn't say Hawtin wow'd me, fairly average IMO. Really liked Vath tho, left about 4am as had a wedding on sat to get to.

Overall, top night, I always wish there were less people so I could get onto the dancefloor but that's me being old I suppose. Good times, good people. Cheers Future!

Richie was solid
Sven... oh Sven when he actually paid attention to his job he was amazing! But the fact is he spent most of the time not even at the decks. Beats would drop and he would be elsewhere.. makes me think he just lined up the set and pressed play..
On the filp side when he did pay attention he was... well... Sven

vath
ID the following track about 45 mins into Vaths set;

Maetrik - Crush On Me (soon to be released on Cocoon)

Also pretty sure I heard Pan-Pot - Captain My Captain.

I thought Vath's track selection in the first hour was ace. Some big tunes thrown in there.
Richie started a bit too cruisy for mine although his last 45 mins was banging. I guess you need to appreciate his style of sampling and layering (ie. no real defined 'track' so to speak) to appreciate what he was doing up there even though it all sounded the "same".

All in all, great night and a great crowd who was up for it!

Great night. Richie was awesome. Sven was good too, but agree with the comments about him not being at the decks half the time.

Did anyone else think they saw Sven have a cheeky spew during his last song??

Awesome night.
Was loving Sven until needing to get home at around 4.

More Friday night events please!

Again, (and I know this wont be popular with everyone) the Metro was a great spot for this.

sick night. Enjoyed both sets, but found both of them lost it a bit at times. Sven tore the roof off at the start!

LOL I thought I saw this too!

This was the first time I'd seen Vath and I was sober, so I can honestly say he played a wicked set. There wasn't quite the amazing vibe in the Metro that I'd been led to expect thou, and was really shocked to find well over half the crowd gone by 4.30. Surely if you've got work on Sat and don't head home til gone 4am, you're gonna be shattered anyway, might as well stay till the end of the gig.

Bit unimpressed with drink prices and lack of smoking area after 3am. Overall thou was probably the right venue for the event.

Richie was abysmal. I held out some hope that he may actually do something with his set, but what he served up was the definition of meandering.

Sven at least picked things up.

Not going to bother with Richie ever again- I've seen him enough when he was great, he's just shitting on that legacy now.

although i somewhat agree with people dissing Hawtins set . . . i rekon it has a lot to do with being in the plastikman headspace. however being on of the top djs in the world, with having access to all those banging tracks, and being PAID to do it . . . well i guess i just confused myself.

good night but!!
