What Whitey said...

You realise this isn't an Alien movie, it's just set in the same world?

same director, same universe, prequel, yeah, I am expecting some consistency. that doesnt mean I want it to be identical, I just think the vast expanses of space and other worlds thing has been done heaps, it would be nice to follow a different thread, one that the Aliens universe explored very well. isolation, being trapped and surrounded. not another unstoppable and technologically advanced enemy forces that we must defeat before they destroy the good guys/earth.

I stand by my comments, I dont like over-polished movies that are too focused on epic cgi landscapes and set pieces, that was avatar's and the new star war's failings. both had the potential awesome, but both we disappointing, avatar less so than star wars. yeah, they look cool, but there are stacks of movies that have that, I want something that stimulates me on a level deeper than just the visual.

Dude, your comments are pretty laughable... it's a trailer, you're only seeing what they want to show you.

Scott made it pretty clear from the beginning this wasn't an alien movie - if it were, then we'd be talking about a completely different type of experience.

Let us judge it when it's out.

P.S it awesome, and you're wrong.

fair enough, cant reall dispute that. as i said, trailers usually make a movie look lame, no matter how good the actual movie is. still, im not going to be a fanboy just cause.

^Just like HAL?

the question i have - if this is 'the alien universe' then it is also the 'predator' universe and therefore ie arnie has killed one out in the bush and gary busey (bless his cotton socks) + danny glover took one out in the middle of town. will there be mention of this?

i really only ask this because my main gripe so far is that it is in the alien universe. why the fark does it have to be? that franchise was raped way long ago when alien infact did go VS with predator. a couple of times if memory serves?

so yeah i dunno it kind of takes a lot of the hype away for me. i'd be more excited if this was a totally fresh new 'universe/concept'.

ahh well at least they have some pretty impressive cast'members'

Gary Busey didn’t do a damn thing, Glover takes all credit for the take down LA’s Pred.

Aliens and Predators can’t be the only alien races about, obviously we have the Space Jockeys too, would you expect them to mention Area 51 also, alongside every UFO sighting because, basically, it involves extraterrestrials? No.

no not really.

my point is is that its all so convoluted and it brings this movie down from being a potentially awesome fresh new take on hard sci-fi - to a prequel set in a universe with a pre-determined future that we already know parts of that is basically a universe of action/horror/thriller films set in space.

im sure there will be nods to alien and scott himself has said
Spoiler:
the last 10 minutes or something will directly relate to the alien movies.

and im also sure fassbender will go nuts as b$'s has already said he wants - which once again has been done.

this to me spells lame.

anywho its not out and its all speculation so wtf would i know.

The xenomorph skull on the Predator's ship in Predator 2 was only meant to be originally like an easter egg of sorts. It was only because of that that the whole Alien vs Predator franchise started and was meant to be non-canon in regards to the Alien universe.

Anyway, with Ridley Scott at the helm, hopefully the Alien universe can regain some of the credibility they lost after it got tarnished by Alien Resurrection onwards.

IMO, this movie will follow (lol prequel) the Alien canon, mostly.
Spoiler:

First off,

Notice how the space suits seem a touch more "advanced" than:

Also, a Space jockey is presented in the trailer.
Assuming the alien ship escapes, perhaps this is the emergency call the Nostromo recieves in Alien?

Edit, No doubt David 8 will flip out and that will generate the hatred for synthetics.

Ok too many beers and I've possibly over thought this.

I have a feeling the space jockey climpsed in the trailer may in fact be David after he goes through some unintended alien transmogrification process.

Plot shall be:
Scientists find abondoned alien vessel/base. General wonder ensues, followed by horrific revelations about the nature/intentions of the aliens (the space jockeys, I mean. Not the xenomorphs).

David 8 is given unethical order by company execs. David struggles with new emotions and their impact on his ideas of human/technological/android advancement and evolution. David gets accidentally changed by alien technology into something part android/alien.

Company execs attempt to contain hybrid Alien-David for study. A-D unleashes a can of whoop-ass on all around him.

For possibly not entirely clear reasons, A-D decides set alien ship on course for Earth. Scientists decide such an event would have disastrous consequences, and make efforts to destroy alien vessel mid flight, resulting in it crashing (back to) the surface of LV-426.

Just about most, if not all, of the cast dies.

i coulda sworn i read an aliens v predator comic prior to predator 2's release.

edit: guess i didnt, according to wikipedia the first comic came out in 1991 and the film was in 1990. supposedly the idea came from the comic book creators and was in motion prior to the movie though,

Pretty much.

The two worlds don't co-exist.

The cross-over films were only made off the back of the comics which were reasonably popular amongst fans. Crossovers in comics are extremely common - Batman and Superman, Terminator vs Robocop - in film, not so much.

To be honest, the crossover really only happened as Fox had the rights to both films.

You did.

The 1st AvP story was published by Dark Horse Comics through November '89 - February '90, soon followed the Predator 2 movie and the release of the 1st game, Alien VS Predator.

And not off the back of the hugely popular video games and long running comic book series? hm.

Whether you like it or not, it is now too late to separate the two and their origins. Dark Horse and 20th Century Fox made damn sure of that.

That said, they will not feature in Prometheus, just like there was no reference to the Xenomorphs in Nimrod Antils Predators, it's a great trend! I think everyone has let go of the novelty of them fighting each other, both films totally flopped.

Pretty sure there was even a comic crossover involving Aliens, Predators and Terminators, according to ye olde wikipedia.

Trololololol, and if true, you'd be making movies if you knew what a good script was. Also, imagine reading Aliens as a script without seeing the movie - you'd think it's shit too.

Whoever said David would turn into the space jockey, I somehow don't think so... because:

I dont even...so let's just say for example stories based in the Star Wars universe span thousands of years. Or Dune for that matter. or any number of other IPs. How does your comment make any sense?

eh

anyway, who cares if it's the same universe or not? There are no preds in this film.

Aliens weren't discovered till the first Alien movie, yet the AvP movies are set in the 20th century as well... Dude use some common sense here.

Also the star wars analogy is retarded, it's the same fucking universe, there is no crossovers.

i don't think anyone is going to disagree with you that the AvP movies are garbage. But the universe of Alien and the universe of the predator movies could be the same one. Just because they are separated by time doesn't make a difference.

If you're talking about how the AvP films fucked up the continuity, then yeah, I agree, but that's not because the crossover doesn't make sense - it's because the film makers are morons. The IP existed and was a cool idea more than ten years before hollywood really raped it.

No, the movies were in the 20th Century! Go Google AVP: Three World War for an eye opener. Predators have been doing what they do for a hell of a long time, over time, and beyond that.

Exactly, just because the Pred movies portrayed in 'em in the 20th century, does not mean they dont exist in any future time line simply because of that.

i think derelict's point (which he didn't actually type in the original comment) is that the AvP movies were in the 20th century, yet Alien occurs after them and implies that humans had never had contact with the xenomorphs prior as they have no knowledge of them. Therefore because of this the entire IP is invalid. Not sure how he goes with multiple Batman origins stories, but anyway.

As for whitey - repeating the same thing over and over again doesn't make it valid.

Anyway, I'm on the internet on a public holiday, arguing over whether the Alien and Predator universes could have coexisted, so I think it's pretty obvious I'm a retard

The multiple batman stories are always set in their own universes, so that's fine.

And yes that was my point, which I did point out clearly when I said "Aliens weren't discovered till the first Alien movie, yet the AvP movies are set in the 20th century as well".

Also a lot of people seem to call them chest busters. I don't recall them ever actually being referred to in the movies by any names.

Another thing I wanted to add regarding the knowledge of the Aliens existence, is that Weyland Industries (now Weyland-Yutani Corporation) has always endeavoured to cover up, keep and secure all information on the Xenomoprhs.

Like in Aliens, the Colonial Marines really never knew why they being sent to LV-426, something of a rescue mision, then discover that it was Burke who ordered the colonists to investigate the derelict spaceship where the Nostromo crew first encountered the Alien eggs, in the hopes to return Alien specimens to the company laboratories where he can profit from their use as biological weapons
