I forgot what your new label was called, and clicked on the thread title thinking Darius was going to have a rant about text book music

Good work getting it all off the ground

It's a complete package, all 3 tracks grabbed me by the balls, each having their place. Really love the peak time Fortier remix!

Great name for a label, and a solid as first release.

Darius - I'm guessing you plan to, but please keep all related information about this label in this thread now (ie, no separate threads for new releases etc. Feel free to post one press release per release in the "Your New Releases" thread however)

Thanks guys

It has been a long time coming, and a lot of hard work and effort has gone into it - well over a year to get the concept off the ground.

Here is some outdoor rave vibes.

Erphun dropping the original mix at the 2010 Winter Solstice Festival. I was told he opened his set with this mix from the breakdown only which is an interesting way of presenting the record i think.

Text Book Music 003 - Habersham & Absence Of Essence pres THE ATL EP

NOW AVAILABLE ON BEATPORT

https://www.beatport.com/en-US/html/...2&a486-index=0

Atlanta has always had an affinity with Melbourne ever since Phil K discovered Habersham and Numinous in 2002. Phil was meticulously going through a pile of records he was sent for his Balance 004 compilation, and one record was the diamond in the rough, standing out like a sore thumb – it was called “Mister Cool”.

Phil included the then unknown pair on his Balance 004 Disc 2, with the record making such an impression on him that he immediately asked his agent to find where these kids lived. He flew straight to Atlanta and discovered a thriving underground production scene, and he started producing with Damon Fonooni – Habersham straight away - working on records such as Cloudbrake, Furball, and paved the way for Habersham’s international profile to grow substantially.

Ever since then, a select group of artists in the city have been solidly producing forward thinking records. Lobotomy Recordings was soon formed – with this imprint being the main source of output for Atlanta based producers Rift, Absence Of Essence, Rob Dowell, Habersham, and many more.

After Darius Bassiray made a recent trip to Atlanta in 2010 – and listened to the recent output in the city with Rob Dowell - he was certain he wanted to get amongst it. It was almost destined to happen, and when Absence Of Essence’s – Darius Kohanim heard the first two releases from Text Book Music – he knew they shared more than just the same name.

Kohanim sent Bassiray a handful of records, which instantly blew him away. 4 months later; and we are now very proud to present a selection of records from the now defunct Labotomy, as well as some previously unreleased material.

The EP is genre-defying and futuristic funk at its very best - that sits somewhere in between techno and electronica – with darkening strikes of techy breakbeat and dynamic melodic elements. In a recent interview Darius Bassiray stated “(they) are so cutting edge with their music it genuinely excites me… These tunes - I am not sure how to even genreise (is that a word?) them, which is so sick.. They are fuckin serious.”

Hi Guys

Text Book Music 004 is now out , for anybody interested, featuring Stuart Mckeown's Chemical Thrust.

Text Book Music 004 - Stuart Mckeown - Chemical Thrust - Original / Darius Bassiray / Lister Cooray / Paul Beynon Remixes

Download on Beatport : -> http://www.beatport.com/release/chemical-thrust/684677

The story behind Chemical Thrust goes deep. Balls Deep. After arriving in Australia in 2006 – Stuart started writing music and immersing him self in the underbelly of the Melbourne electronic music scene. After moving house near Darius Bassiray , the two would often meet for studio sessions and bounce idea’s off of one another, collaborating and the two started releasing music to the world a short time later.

One of the tracks made during this era was Chemical Thrust. Originally signed to Iron Box Music for a vinyl release , it never saw the light of day due to the label going defunct one release shy of ‘Frame & Formed 3’.

After sitting on a hard drive for many years , we thought it would be a crime for it to not see the light of day as it is truly a timeless piece of music , that sounds fresh despite being written and produced almost 5 years ago. Solid original music at its finest.

2011 Remixes come courtesy of Darius Bassiray and new to the Text Book family Lister Cooray, with their twisted interpretation that is a slight step down from the original yet still remaining true to its roots, and Paul Beynon who has provided an excellent 118 BPM cover version which features his own vocals and uncompromising groove.

Selected Feedback.

Darius Bassiray - Consortium Of Colors (Text Book Music 005)

Original / Nadja Lind / Markojux / Rob Dowell / Trinity & Beyond Remixes

Out Now on Beatport:

http://www.beatport.com/release/cons...-colors/962787

At some point during the 2012 Rainbow Serpent Festival, Darius Bassiray found himself wandering and discovering exciting untapped areas of the great Australian outdoors. Inspired by the atmospheric soundscapes he was hearing, Darius went back to his campsite, pulled out his laptop and attempted to capture this mood. The result was “Consortium of Colors”, a fusion of futuristic broken beat, synthetic melodies, and forward thinking beat programming.

When it came to remixers, Pinksilver’s Markojux was an obvious choice. His blend of dub-inspired music complements the feel of the original and takes it to a whole new level. Trinity and Beyond deliver a quality interpretation expanding on the melodic themes of the original. Rob Dowell is one of the most underrated producers in the world in our opinion, and on this release, he adds his signature take on deep house that resonates why Text Book Music and producers from Atlanta have such a uncanny musical affinity Finally, Nadja Lind provides a quality brooding techno remix with her trademark rolling grooves, percussion, deep atmospherics and a really special key and synth work out that totally surprises you in all the right places.

Wow, Consortium Of Colors is an amazing tune. Love that melody, such nice sounds. Great job Darius.

The Trinity & Beyond Remix is top shelf and my favourite on the release. Such high standard production. Can see this remix working in so many mixes, and even in a club environment, especially to open with.

Magnificent stuff from Text Book Music.

I don't go to be in the VIP area.. I don't need big breaks, a big song with a buildup and lights and smoke.. all you need is a kickdrum and a good bassline. You don't need any of that other shit. Na, I'm not going for none of those reasons.. I'm just going for the music.

We are thrilled to announce the Text Book Music 006 launch party for 'If You’re Lost I’ll Be your Shadow' is almost here. This record was never intended for a wider audience nor a release, however a message received from Caroline Beynon, after a conversation with her siblings Paul and Melanie, changed all that. Used with permission, this extract provides some background on the record and its meaning in her words.

“Darius Bassiray is one of my closest friends, and I am one of the people for whom If You’re Lost I’ll Be Your Shadow was written. The record was was sent to me with a simple message, “this is for you.” The original intention was a profoundly personal one, commemorating the passing of my youngest brother Benny, putting sounds to a sadness for which there are no words. It expresses the loss, and the mending of a heart broken. Upon first listen, I knew it had to be shared.

Artists are the true keepers of time, and their work allows an experience that can help us to forget, and more importantly, to remember. That sentiment is the very essence of this tune. It is with these feelings in mind that we now send this music out into the world. What started as a private moment between close friends has grown into something far greater than any of us could have imagined. I hope that you enjoy it as much as I do, whether you’re smiling on a dance floor at 3am, or sipping an Earl Grey home alone, just listening.”

Text Book Music 006 was created without compromise. Every remix was carefully selected, and many involved have a personal connection to one, or all of us. In the midst of our sadness, we were overwhelmed by friends, acquaintances, and strangers, all eager to get to work on the project, expressing their compassion through the universal medium of sound. Benny would love the result, as it features some of his favourite artists– Chris Fortier, Habersham, Jay Tripwire, Deepchild, Kasey Taylor, Altruism, Darius Bassiray, and his brother, Paul Beynon.
