Robbie Lowe - 4 hour set - Mink Bar - Friday 23rd September
The first few weeks of Mink Fridays have been amazing!

September 23rd sees arguably Australia's best DJ's Robbie Lowe (Syd), take over the wheels at Mink for an epic 4 hour set!!

Supported by Andrew Slattery & Jason D'Costa

Robbie Lowe is one of Australia’s finest DJs and is often the “go-to-guy” for perfect support and warm up spots for the biggest names on the planet. He’s set just the right mood for a multitude of internationals, from house artists such as Pezzner and Danny Howells and the finest in progressive such as Sasha & Digweed, right across to the world’s biggest trance act - Tiesto. Robbie’s equally at ease playing to thousands of people at major national festivals, as he is setting the vibe at darker, intimate back room gigs.

Robbie’s label as “Sydney’s best warm up DJ” could be seen as a bittersweet label to be tagged with, but it is one Robbie wears with modest pride. However as great as he is warming up a room, he is clearly an amazing peak time DJ in his own right as shown through his consistent floor following and excellent residencies over the past decade.

DJing since the mid 90’s Robbie’s journey launched properly with a top notch residency at the legendary Sounds On Sunday events at The Greenwood. Here Robbie developed a solid fan base as his late evening courtyard sets became the talk of the town – the perfect way for clubbers to finally wrap up their weekend with a smile, and also for industry to unwind. From 2002, Sweetchilli promoters Daniel Crocetti and Crispin Kerr hooked in to Robbie’s talent and direction and resulted in focused and top quality sets with a great diversity, meaning he could readily adapt to any slot and take the party in exactly the right direction.

Beyond the Sweetchilli partnership, Robbie’s career has been filled with as much diversity as his sets. He’s been a regular contributor to Australian EDM magazine 3D World over the past five years, along with a tonne of radio spots both online and across traditional airwaves, as well as mixing the highly acclaimed “Colour” podcast series alongside fellow Sydney DJ, Tim Culbert. The international scene hasn’t missed out either, with slots at New York's Sullivan Room and Le Souk along with London’s epic Turnmills in 2005 alongside UMEK & John 00 Fleming, and in 2011 Bali's SOS Supper Club.

More recently, Robbie’s journey into music production with Sydney producer Matt Rowan has seen them release cuts on Hussle, Outta Limits and Rococo while most recently they’ve turned in “Ground Swell” for Proton Music, and yet another Proton release for the “Colour” EP.

The flare, personality and diversity as a DJ is something that will have Robbie Lowe kept as Sydney’s firm favourite. Regardless of whether it’s the current residencies for Shrug or Spice, or setting the standard for the Australian festival circuit you’ll always see and hear the passion, skills and talent that makes for an understated, but very special DJ.

Very excited about this one!!!

Actually im that much of a fanboi i put this on.....http://www.inthemix.com.au/events/re..._Sydney_191110

Have a read, will give you an idea of what to expect with a long set

Disclaimer: If you were considered coming to this gig, but for whatever reason could not quite make it in the end, consider this your warning. If you to choose to read any further, it will only disappoint you more.

The man behind Shrug, Dave Stuart, appearing sans beard for the first time ever, but in its place a dirty Movember mo, kicked things off as he usually does – namely, in style. However, he did something he rarely does and with more than just a smattering of vocal house, immediately, one could tell that the night was going to be just that little bit different. Warming up duties complete, the man they’d all come to see stepped up behind the decks, and was greeted with nothing but warm faces of like-minded people, all here to celebrate two stellar journeys: firstly, the one that had gone fifteen years and which had brought him to this very point, and secondly, the one he was almost certainly about to take us on. And my oh my, did he ever.

For a bloke that is seemingly always humble, regardless of who the big star he might be warming up for may be, from Sasha to Tiesto, having a night that was dedicated entirely to him was similarly a humbling experience. But that’s just typical of the nice guy that Robbie is, right?

In the lead up to the special gig, he featured in a series of interviews and spoke candidly about being excited about what the night would bring. As midnight struck and the Civic was jamming with a who’s who of the Sydney faithful – seemingly all gathered to support someone they proudly and passionately call their own – it seemed that the excitement was contagious.

As Friday officially became Saturday, the place was filling up quickly, things became that touch proggier, the dancefloor filled, the arms were raised, the fists were clenched, and we were up, up, and away. For close to the next five hours, he had us all eating out of his proverbial hands, as we reacted to his every musical ebb and flow, wherever it may be that he took us.

There was plenty of progressive prowess, more than a touch of melodic mastery, a sprinkling of acid, and even what was bordering on trance. And for every turn that he took us on, it was like the smiles across the room kept shifting, as every punter had at least one of their musical itches scratched. And so the night continued, as Mr Lowe, befitting a retrospective, took us back, way back. The mixing was seamless, the track selection, not surprisingly, gold.

The Civic was jam packed, and as taxi changeover came and went, the numbers dwindled ever so slightly, and almost in appreciation of the still heaving crowd, Robbie took it up a notch, and with it came the hushed discussions of “set of the year” and “better than anything I’ve heard” coming from chin-strokers and regular punters alike. For a Shrug crowd, which knows at least a thing or two about most things musical, the accolades rarely come much better than that.

But truth be told, neither do nights like this. At a time when some are wondering what has happened to the Sydney club scene of yesteryear, along comes a night like this and restores your faith in it all. And who better to have done that than someone that will proudly always call Australia home.

lol.....well here's the mega post i did in that thread......a few cool little bits of Robbie Lowe history & old mixes

I sat down with Robbie a couple of weeks ago and chatted to him about certain gigs / mixes that have really meant a lot to him over the years.....going through all his old flyers & mix tapes really shows that he is a stand out DJ.

Some highlights

Probably missed some but here are the one’s that really stand out in my memory.

Sounds Of Sydney (1997 - 1999)

These were Ben Korbel & Paddy Nash's early parties. I played about 4 of them. They had a reputation focusing more on the deep and progressive sounds. I have some great memories from playing at these - particularly a certain morning set. It was felt and talked about for a long time.

Astrofunk 2000

This was a New Years gig that brought us into the new millennium. I played 11.30 - 1 which meant the countdown was in my set. I faded my track just before 12, then played Gat Decors Passion at 12am. It was huge and I'll never forgot being that lucky to bring in the new millennium like that.
Funny little comment on the flyer when talking about Ben Korbel & Robbie Lowe saying; “this is the sound of future clubbing”…how right they were…

Below is the mix that Robbie sent off to the promoters that pretty much secured him getting booked for this gig, was his first “popular” dj mix.

Robbie Lowe - Future 1999 Mix

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=RAOD1LZH

Sounds On Sunday (1999 - 2005)

My first real residency, and played here for quite a few years. Played some awesome sets to capacity crowds in the courtyard early in the decade. And supported countless international artists during the Greenwoods heyday.

Danny Howells warm up (2003)

My first international warmup. It was in the courtyard of Sounds On Sunday. One of the best memories I have in my career to date. I have the recording and listen to it from time to time as it always brings a smile to my face.

Robbie Lowe Danny Howells warm up set 24_7 Tour 2003 @ The Greenwood Hotel Sydney

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7XEO0B9K

John Digweed warm up @ Home Nightclub 2005

Amazing ... Home was packed ... Good feedback from the man too. He loved my warmup, the feeling that you get when one of your idols pats you on the back and says “well done” is simply amazing.

Sasha warmup @ Sounds courtyard 2004

Amazing set warming up for my hero. He arrived early and caught have of my set, bopping around behind me. It was such a good day.

Sweetchilli (2000 - 2007)

Where I made my name really. I have a lot to thank these guys for, they have supported me from as soon as they started. They have been such a big influence on my career. So many highlights – so many long nights, so many hangovers…..

Robbie Lowe - Live @ Sweetchilli 2004

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=V6YZBW86

Renaissance Events (2004 - 200

All amazing gigs - in-particular the Zabs gig at the Arthouse in 2006 in think ... I had my own room (Robbie Lowe & Friends) where I got to play renaissance classics for 5 hours, you can imagine how much fun that was .

We Love Sounds

My first set in the Forum. I think it was in 2006 before Luke Fair. The place was going mental to my set.

Tiesto Warmups (2007)

For his Elements Of Life Sydney shows. 2 shows I played to over 6000 people. Fucking amazing. Though looking at the flyer it looks like Tiesto was the support act

New York

Played some great gigs there – was really surprised by the vibe over there. I love the place and cant wait to get back over there.

UK

Played at Turnmills with a solid line up (an average night for Turnmills) right before Umek. I was blown away by the clubbing scene there....really would love to get back there to play again.

Robbie Lowe - live at Turnmills, Sept 16 2005

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=36HLSZCD

Colour

The Mixes have been very well received from all the DJ’s involved & the parties have been awesome from both the time at the bunker to the current parties at the Civic. This was one of the most popular mixes.

Robbie Lowe - Colour 1.4 2009

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=QF578531

Shrug - Clive Henry night in particular...

First Shrug gig was Feb 2009, then became a resident from Sept 09 onwards. Highlight was the Clive Henry gig in May 2010 one of the more epic warm up sets ive played. Not much needs to be said with this!

The Laundry

Played some amazing gigs there, but he one that really stands out in my mind was the Danny Howells support in 2010. One of my favourite artist, and someone i always love to watch as a DJ.

Spice / Reckless Republic

Had some great mornings there, so many hazy memories, so many fun sets, so many packed dance floors. Murat has been great support and i always look forward to each & every gig there.

Party Under the Stars 2006

Wicked bush party, had an awesome time over the weekend.

Robbie Lowe - Party_Under_The_Stars 2006

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=WEQ59R7V

And two more older mixes that I love;

Robbie Lowe - Just A Few Anthems 1997

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=MS29TBAE

Robbie Lowe - Triple J Mix Up (July 2007)

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2AWVUTYA

Looking through these has really brought back some memories of some great times, and makes me appreciate the support from other DJs, promoters and most importantly the people on the dance floors over the years!

Hey guys,

Because Melbourne is in the midst of Footy Finals (And D'Costa & I are mad Pies and Hawks fans), we will be broadcasting the big prelim final live on the projector in the main room! So now you can come down early, and watch the big game in comfort, while relaxing to some quality tunes, and cocktails.

To also celebrate we'll also be running SUPER CHEAP $4 schooners from opening until the end of the footy game! So you've got no excuse to stay home early now!

And to make matters even more exciting Robbie has just sent a new set

Bring on Friday!
