If you want to talk about valid taxation and corporate governance issues, I'm all for it. I just don't like misguided vaguires because other people are doing it.

There was some stuff relevant to this issue in the Henry tax review too. But most people haven't read that.

We'll eventually make our money back on reverse traffic. But the 100kg domestic load limit on those ladders means concurrent crossings are pretty much out of the question.

Safety first (then teamwork).

why have you been white knighting this subject then? now its a valid issue? its always been one of the issues. system is broken. not entirely bad. not entirely good. people should be able to discuss it without being referred to disparagingly as people who only talk about this stuff for recreation.

Because we have a functioning parliamentary democracy where these issues can be addressed and on the whole we have an exceptionally good run of it?

I'm a big advocate of tax reform, I have a lot of time for it, I even like talking about it. I just don't have a lot of time for aimless people making aimless demands when in general their situation is above average.

The 99% here are in the charmed 1% globally, when they are bitching about how rough they have it, well it just seems a bit asinine to me.

I didn't say it was perfect, but it is functioning, even with our apparently disfunctional government, stuff still gets done, legislation still gets passed, people still have access to universal healthcare, education & welfare.

and i'm not saying its not delivering those things. i'm not even suggesting any answers. i'm just questioning if it couldnt be better. you should be able to question the system without some cvnt telling you youd be better off "volunteering at a soup kitchen".

I don't object to all the questions, I object to the idea that any such action is warranted in Australia, when it clearly isn't.

As far as Australia is concerned, people would be better off being an agent for some positive change at a local level.

The Taxation forum that happened recently in Canberra was expected to be a useless bust - it turned out to be really, really productive with a whole heap of great policy put forward and thrashed out by policy experts in the area with minimal political grandstanding.

We've heard fuck all about it since because it doesn't fit the current media narrative, but it did more constructive work to improving the efficiency and equibility of the taxation system in Australia than any of the 'occupy' protests here will.

It's not that I don't question it, it's more that it doesn't surprise me - tax havens are a massive issue and have been for years. There is a lot of cooperative policy work that has been put in to minimising their use, especially at the corporate level, but it is complex, it takes time and it has been a policy issue that is looked at here in Australia in recent years.

If people start paying more attention to actual policy issues instead of bullshit like assylum seekers, then we'd be better off.

I don't see how standing in the street going rabble, rabble, rabble - corporations are greedy will affect any policy change though.

I dunno, this may be a result of me being a poltics and economic policy sperger - I've cared about this shit for years, the actual detail of it. But you can always bet people will be up for an anti corporate or anti globalisation protest, but not interested in the actual policy work that is required to improve the situation, then its back to watching the x-factor and today tonight.
