Pat Cummings signed for the scorchers. Nice little opening bowler right there

Yeah he proved a valiant servant. Did he end up getting Mcgrath's record? Painful if not as was within a couple of wickets!

One-dayers certainly suited him better. HIm at the 2003 world cup - some quality!

This ripper always springs to mind

Can't believe I'm applauding SA but good to see them sticking it to the English. A bit more mental disintegration for them hopefully before the Ashes.

It has been ages since england has been pumped for runs at home.

Not much more a demoralising sight when getting someone out after an epic partnership only to have Jacques Kallis stroll in

On paper they are the best team in cricket in the last few years IMO, just have never been able to put it together and not choke. Better them than the poms.

What's the bet that England will get 50-100 in front and then clean them up?

That is an epic scorecard though good on em.

SA have played far less matches too. It's always felt like weak opposition (India being old, Australia being inexperienced, WI being shit) has been a large part of England's recent success and all that was needed was a class opposition to beat them at home. They're no great side.

One swallow doesn't make a summer, but we we're well and truly outplayed by a team that clicked superbly. Surprising lack of grit and application by Trott and arguably Cook in the second knock... and woeful shots from Strauss and RavBop.

Taking two wickets to the Jaapies twenty is worrying & I'd like to see Finn brought in and Broad given the ultimate kick up the arse by being dropped.

Still two to play and Headingly beckons....

Cook got a pretty good nut in the second dig but the failure in the first innings fucked ya after having a few blokes set in.

Steyn still showing who's boss.

If Morkel keeps banging it in accurately they have the best pace attack i've seen for quite a while. At this stage we are no hope at the end of this year

England going in with 4 quicks this test. Interesting decision, unless there is some hoop there they could be in a bit of strife. Guess they had to do something though, and if Swann is injured then Finn is probably a better bowler than Panesar in a straight comparison.

Do you think Kevin Pietersen will ever play for England again after sending derogatory texts to the South Africans about Andrew Strauss?
And more damaging than the allegations he texted personal abuse about his captain are the allegations Pietersen told the South Africa fast bowlers to go around the wicket to Strauss, a tactic with which Dale Steyn dismissed him in the second Test at Headingley.

Would usually give benefit of the doubt about these things, but gut feeling with KP is that these are probably true allegations. You never know though, there's probably been resentment building among the other players at him being the poster boy for the team over the last 6-7 years. That said, without his contributions they probably wouldn't have won any of the ashes series since and including 05, and the current series would be a whitewash. Eng management should have treated him like the princess that he is if they wanted to stay on top. Or drop him for good and you can have a well unified and average team.

Alot of respect for going down in flames. There was a point there it was probably 50/50 with 80 needed with 3 wickets.

Agreed, they went for the win rather than thinking about ranking points and going for a draw.

Massive shame but from all accounts SA were on top throughout.

You know England are feeling under pressure because they start dropping catches. Against Australia recently and India - everything stuck, against Pakistan and SA they were fumbling all over the shop.

No real blame to the bowlers, 9 drops in 3 matches = missed opportunities against top class players who take advantage.

Batting looked shaky again, no-one was really dominant.
We need a Kallis, so the top order are completely confident that they can play shots and they've got a rock-solid player ready to come in.

Oh and KP has to go, his stupid little antics are so so so boring. A player with great flair, but terrible for morale.

The South Africans took the stuffing out of England nice and early if Strauss had made 26 and Cook 25 we would have got the 51 runs needed it's that simple really.
