just the 38 views and no comments surprise me.
this is having some big advertisement, the books are hugely popular (not to mention awesome) and the movie is looking fantastic.

just really surprised none of you are hyping.

Well I was being polite by not saying anything, but what the hell, its the internet... so the books are aimed at 16 year old girls, with the completely over the top totalitarian dystopia, an incredibly stylised version of elites and downtrodden poor... ridiculous love triangle, that is about as interesting as watching paint dry (or possibly the twilight films)... and while the first book has had some thought put into plot and pacing, the second is a rehash of the first, and the third loses the plot completely... so while I imagine the hoards of twilight fans will love to jump on the bandwagon, I dont think I'll be one of them...

but just so you know I am not all harshness and doom jarrard, I'll tell you the rumors are that fringe is looking closer to renewal, at least for a shorter 13 episode season.

tbh, i think theyre more of a "young adult" type of book. theyre not bad, movie looks alright.

apparently the movie was originally going to be an R and they cut it back because the books largest market was teens and they wanted to capitalise.

still, i dont think that market makes the books bad. harry potter books were great for what they were. sure its not song of ice and fire, but its still good.

im a bit worried about them making it a PG though

especially things like
Spoiler:
the gruesome deaths in the hunger games themselves, glimmer (disintigrating body into goo) and cato (eaten alive by wolves). they probably just wont show it. not to mention its kids dying

So they take something that could possibly have been good and then strip it right back to bland to ensure they can make a shitload of money. And you question why no one is interested in your thread?

yep that's my concern, I didn't like the book(s)... so I am obviously completely affected by what 'society' thinks of me...

They are marketed and categorised as Young Adult novels, which by definition is aimed at 10-20 year olds and just because you 'know' guys who have read it, doesn't change the facts

If anyone wants to see this type of story treated better and with adult sensibilities, you should try reading or watching Battle Royale

edit : lol jarrad... deleted your post... ah well I'll let mine stand...

No movie ever goes out after an R rating JRod, that's just rubbish. What was the last movie that was rated R and generated a shitload of money at the box office? I'll wait patiently whilst you :research:.

I don't think he was saying they were trying to get an R, more that as is stood, it was GOING TO BE rated R, so they edited it to get it passed the censors as an M...I'm guessing...maybe not, but pretty much only horrors would be OK with/trying to get R ratings

Ummm, pretty sure the Saw series would have generated a fairly alright stack o cash while being R rated...don't trust any movie which is a "horror" which isn't rated R :pirate: Aaarrrrrrrrr

I was reading 'young adult' books when I was 10. But can proudly say I've never read these ones. They look trashy. Not planning to bother with the film either, the trailer just looks silly IMO.

Saw as a series generated cash but individually they did fair in terms of box office, knocked it out of the park on return on investment though! But that's horror, this isn't a horror movie, is it?

I think he was talking about films that have come out in the last 15 years.

To be fair, most films get horribly cut back on violence/gore in order to allow kids to spend their pocket money.

It wouldn't work, the demographic this movie is for 12-16 yr olds.

The first book was very very good, the second mediocre and the third abysmal.

I think people would be surprised at the number of adults that read "young adult" books. Subsequently, the category is developing some much darker niches which bridge the age gap better than ever before.

A Clockwork Orange was released in 1971 and Requim is 11 years old, it also pulled in less than 10 million at the box office.
The Hangover is really the only R rated comedy to do any money in recent memory.

The preview looked pretty gash IMHO, I saw Running Man, Escape From Absolom, Battle Royale and all the other movies that this movie is, 10-15 years ago. Also, 'young adult' (read: dyslexic emo retard) books are my least favourite.
there must be some mistake I didn't mean to let them take away my soul am I too old is it too late

Yes it is Jarrad.

But honestly It doesn’t take a Ph.D. in literature or history to grasp that both works have their roots in long-standing traditions of science fiction, social satire and mythology, and that both endeavor to be simultaneously contemporary and ancient, The Running Man anyone?

And what about Orwells '1984' ?

If the books were aimed at a teen market, then there's no need for an R rating IMO, as there shouldn't be any content that can;t be shown or implied with a PG rating. You don't have to have the gory details of every death splattered across the screen, it's not a splatter flick ffs.

Game of Thrones (TV) spoiler
Spoiler:
though given that you were the one who grumbled about the (IMO brilliantly filmed) execution scene in Game of Thrones and wanted to see Eddard Stark's head bouncing around the steps of Kings Landing, I get why you might find that hard to grasp
