HIGH FLYERS LITTLE SECRET #5 With GRAEME PARK...Sat June 23rd
Fellow High Flyers,

Following on from a massive summer of events, the Dig Deep team are pleased to announce that we’re bringing it all back to where the Secret Warehouse parties first began for a monumental night of entertainment at Sun Studios! We might’ve had a short break since then, but we’ve been busy…

The ‘Hacienda’ is of one of the most iconic nightclubs in the history of dance music and to anyone who knows a bit about club culture, it’s synonymous with some of the worlds leading and legendary House DJ’s and acts.

We’ve been gently twisting the talented arm of a Hacienda legend to come play at our house for some time now, so we’re super excited to confirm that GRAEME PARK has agreed to grace our shores for the next Secret Warehouse installment on Saturday June 23rd!

GRAEME PARK…

http://www.mixcloud.com/graemepark
http://soundcloud.com/graemepark
http://www.myspace.com/graemepark

Joining Graeme will be a stellar local lineup – to be announced next week.

We’ve been getting a great response on these events and as you’re probably aware they’ve been selling out a month in advance. To ensure all you loyal regulars get the best chance of scoring tickets, we will be offering them to all Dig Deep & Funkdafied regulars first before going on sale to the public.

First Release Tickets on sale – Wednesday 18th April 9.00am sharp!

We hope you can all make it for what we’re hoping will be our biggest and best warehouse event so far; we have a massive production going into this one, so your ears and eyes are in for a treat!

Please note first release tickets will only be on sale for a short time, so get in early to avoid disappointment!

Here’s a video clip of the first warehouse event to get you in the mood:

wow - that's a blast from the past - saw the guy playing vocal house in 99 at home nightclub...the days when you had to wear dress shoes and smart shits... Lucky is an early gig - is Graeme over 60 now?

He's not quite a pensioner just yet, and I'm sure he will give us a great show, it's a personal pleasure to be able to showcase such an iconic legend at one of our events, check out his weekly radio shows which we will keep posting up here and you will notice he's still very present in the industry, far from cutting edge but we don't build the warehouse parties around cutting edge music, just good quality music to get people moving, and Graeme's the perfect fit for this next event.

Additional line up adding in the next few weeks...

We have DA for 1,700 for this event with the 3 areas but the venue has 7 areas in total so we hope to grow the events to 3,000 with police blessing in the future, work in progress i guess!

2 hours each?

Extremely disappointing.

this appears to be happening a lot, is it down to the big dj's not wanting to play longer sets or is it a cost cutting excercise to make more profit by filling the line up with locals?

Not the case at all Basics, the reason both Graeme & Tom are playing 2hr sets is because we wanted to showcase them both in the main room and didn't want any of them playing the earlier times when the venue is still filling up.

If you read the message that we mailed out below you will see both acts are booked for another 2hr set at the after party, this will be a free event for our warehouse patrons, so 4hrs per international over the 2 parties.

We also have to pay for them to play the second shows and with no door charge to the regulars, we actually make a big loss on the after party, so I can assure you we are not in it for a quick buck!
We have a huge production in a brilliant venue with great acts and believe we deliver big bang for your buck!

Hope you enjoy the party on Saturday

Fellow High Flyers,

With just over 3 days to go until our “High Flyers Little Secret” warehouse event kicks off we have some exciting news…

The venue has toilets but we have brought in a large 16 pan block just as a back up and to avoid any wait.

Good thinking, it will be welcome. Toilets there cannot cope with 800 people, nevermind a crowd your size.

Thanks for the response, still a bit disappointed to be fair, suppose im used to dj's playing in the uk for a lot longer for a fraction of the price

I received an email saying you were attempting to negotiate the 2 of them to play the after party....im assuming this has now been confirmed then

still at least the after party is free unlike when jamie jones and lee foss played Agwa where we paid $70+ for the boat and then we had to pay an additional $30+ for the after party (with both dj's billed at the same time)...... so hats off to you for that

fingers crossed the drinks are of a reasonable strength and price ........see you on the dance floor

Unfortunately we can't compete with the UK prices, this is due to the costing of long distance flights/visas and many other outgoings to make the tour happen, we spend $5k per artist before they even set foot in the country, just the price we have to pay living so far away from Europe I guess, if we want to hear quality artists we all got to pay for the privilege.

We do have an after party that is indeed free, so you will get plenty of hours out the international acts.

Drinks prices are not going to be cheap either, but as you will see from the production we don't throw cheap parties, so I guess you get what you pay for.

Hopefully you will walk away feeling satisfied with the level of event for the money spent, that's all we can hope for.
We have done a few of these events over the years and people do seem to come back.

Maybe you can give us a review after your night with us?

Hope you have a good one

It's funny you say that. just going off the average ticket price of $50 (this is just rounding it off to the first lot of tickets) with 1500 tickets being sold, not including the exorbitant $9 (average; same as the beer selection) price for alcohol.

Turkman, each to their own mate but if you think $8 Extra Dry and $9 Sol is exorbitant then you can't be getting out much!
You may not have noticed where most of the income was spent but I can assure you we won't be getting rich off that party!

There are many extra costs putting such events on at such venues including artists, production, security, cleaners and painters, not to mention $3,000 for extra toilet blocks to ensure all of our customers get a quality event and are looked after!
It's hard not to take your negative comment personally when I work 4 months on such an event for around $5 per hour, pumping 95% of the income back into the party!

I guess we can't please everyone and our events are not for you, we try to keep all our prices at a reasonable price, I pay $8 for a bottle of Extra dry in my local pub.

Sorry you felt ripped off, never my intention...

And what you don't see when you buy an extra dry for 8 dollars from your local, is all the extra costs that go into getting you that beer. Wayeno has to go down to dan murphies sometimes when they've ran out and pick up some cases on a bulk buy. Sometimes he gets hungry and has to get some hot chips & a dagwood. If it's a hot day he needs to grab a doctor pepper, so you can see the costs just keep adding up. Now I won't even get started on how much it costs to drive 5 minutes round the block a couple of times a month. Now add up all those costs & we're barely making 600% profit a bottle. It's outfuckingrageous.

Well I had a fun night overall, and thought things were quite well run (my only gripe was that I felt the sound was too loud in the main room - my ears were ringing when we left...). Tom Middleton lost me for a bit in the middle of his set but that's another matter.

Your right Lavelle, we had a demo with a new system in the main room and did battle to keep the levels down, something we will be aware of next time.

Whoever was playing before Tom Middleton around 2.30am at the Burdekin was very on point!

Bob Sinclar - Save Our Soul. Amongst many other solid tunes and proper mixing.

Bob Sinclair - Save Our Soul - YouTube
The first YouTube clip has some horrible vocals.

We don't close at 3am cos we want to, we close at 3am cos we have to, that's why we always throw a free after part at all our events, warehouses and boats included, Burdekin closed at 8am, so 8pm-8am, a good solid 12hrs for your ticket price.

I think what Mindfull is trying to put across - and if he wasn't being so **** in cheek about it - is the age-old 'warehouse' argument. In popular consensus, a warehouse party is qualified by the policy of BYO. The minute a venue has a commercial bar, well, er, it's a venue.

i think people are really starting to become touchy about the use of a 'warehouse' party being bandied about these day, in fact, I know - it's been a hot topic on this forum quite a bit.

Sun Studios allows for BYO past those hours. Picnic, CO OP and other parties run until about 5/6am. Of course people will get iffy about paying for booze in a venue that for the most part has allowed BYO.
