smalltown | WTSC | Chris Liebing | Kaiserdisco | June 10 | Brown Alley | Day Party

Chris Liebing returns to Melbourne for his 1st show since 2009, be prepared for an extended set from the techno legend. Kaiserdisco's debut Australian tour will be sure to please their legion of fans who've been begging to see the techno artist hit Australian shores.

CHRIS LIEBING
DJ, producer, radio host of a weekly show and the driving force behind the labels CLR and Spinclub Recordings. His sound has continuously evolved during his DJ career, always true to his Techno roots. He was one of the first DJs that used the new possibilities in the course of the digitalisation of music in a consequent and creative way. The real-time manipulation of the individual elements plays an important role in his sets. Due to the good co-operation with various software and hardware makers, his current setup offers him practically endless possibilities. He is a worldwide requested DJ and also part of the Collabs live act, together with the Dutch producer Speedy J. His productions and remixes appear in the play lists of numerous renowned DJs.

KAISERDISCO
Both Frederic Berger and Patrick Buck are true boys from Hamburg. They are in their mid 30´s and have had single careers of their own for more than 10 years, but when they joined forces things began to simmer. They have so much in common that you could think they were twins in mind. Both started to play musical instruments at school and also started their DJ careers then. As they grew up Patrick started to study and Frederic started an apprenticeship. Patrick quite his studies and once Frederic had completed his hotelier apprenticeship both became professional musicians. After several years pursuing their musical careers they meet up and discovered that they had a great deal in common and then started to work together.

Local lineup to follow.

Purchase tickets through Moshtix and wearenovel.com.au or physical tickets via promoters or over the bar at Brown Alley.

Apologies to whoever it was that uploaded it for me last time but my PC crashed so I am in need of the incredible Collabs set from last year (4 hours or so) again. It is maybe the best extended, peak time techno set I've heard.

Anyone with even a passing interest in Liebing (or Speedy J for that matter) should listen to it.

CLR PODCAST 116 FT COLLABS (SPEEDY J & CHRIS LIEBING) @ Electric Deluxe 11, Melkweg, Amsterdam May 2011

You can download an hour of it from the CLR website. It is probably Liebing rambling at his finest which is an added benefit of getting the podcast.

Bruno Orso’s Sunrise Over Tocumwal, 28 January 2012

Man this is going to be good. Saw Chris Liebing 4 years ago and he met my expectations, shook it's hand, became friends with it and then smashed the shit out of it.

Just gone through the Collabs set again. It is as good a set as I remember it.

Hearing Speedy J's panic screach its way into the foreground over 2 minutes and then finally take over...

I'm not sure if either of these have been posted yet:

Chris Liebing @ CLR London Warehouse Event, Secret Location (London), 3 March 2012

CLR Podcast 162: Chris Liebing @ Time Warp Mannheim, 31 March 2012

They are quality sets so it is worth the overkill.

So Sunday 10th June there's this Chris Liebing and Kaiserdisco gig from 2pm - 10pm. Then straight after 10pm - 7am there's another gig with Deepchild live, Steve Stevens live, and Craig McWhinney & Mike Callander live.

So spoiled

Checking out flights / events tickets / accom and working out total cost tonight. The gf and I don't really want to brave a crammed in Cave at Laundry for the Sydney Liebing leg, so looks like Brown Ally and Revolver could be on. Choosing Revs over the Guy J gig as will see Guy J back home the following wkd.

Levon Vincent the weekend before in Syd makes for a busy but awesome June

Remember it's a bit different to promoters 'choosing' Chinese Laundry to put gigs on. Chinese Laundry is an entity in itself with it's own team. My guess to how they secure so many contracts is the money they can offer to the artists. Again this is just a guess, but it seems Chinese Laundry can offer all the big internationals a much better figure than most of the other promoters and clubs in Sydney. Hence they dominate the market here, almost like a monopoly when the big players come through like Liebing.

I think having their own club and a pretty solid base/foundation helps with being able to do this. And it's really not that bad in there, I've been in Cave gigs where they've hosted James Holden, Dettmann & Klock, JOOF, Henry Saiz and I can't remember it being excessively uncomfortable. Will be interesting to see how the Liebing gig holds up though.

I've only ever been to Brown Alley once, what room is Chris going to play in? The rooms I can remember is the upstairs bit where Danny Howells last played, the downstairs part which Red Sky had hold of for Vibrasphere and Max Cooper, and the other part of the club which is more like a lounge (middle of the club maybe)...
