So why didnt Sterjovski play in the granny? I forgot all about him. Was he injured? not good enough?

Hope Zahra shows potential

jets have a new owner
nathan tinkler

Newcastle Jets are believed to be back in the hands of coal baron Nathan Tinkler following face-to-face talks with Football Federation Australia chairman Frank Lowy.

Almost three weeks after Tinkler stunned the A-League by announcing his intention to hand back the license, and after a protracted war-of-words between the Hunter Sports Group and the FFA, it took a couple of days of intense talks between the two billionaires at the start of this week to resolve the future of the Jets. A formal announcement is expected shortly.

Tinkler's about-face not only stabilises the situation at Newcastle - where many players and coach Gary van Egnmond have been sounded out by other clubs - but significantly eases the prsssure on the cash-strapped governing body, which has committed to bankrolling a new team from west Sydney for next season.

Advertisement: Story continues below At the height of the dispute, the FFA was talking tough about a potential $100million damages claim, while Tinkler was being slammed by the Newcastle public for his actions. Somehow a middle ground has been found, and one insider told the Herald that Tinkler had re-committed to providing his full support for the club.

So if Tinkler had acted with a modicum of decorum, rather than carrying on like every other brazillionaire in Australia and gobbing off in public, the A League wouldn't have looked so fcuked up over the last couple of months ... well played, fat lad.

not all billionaires are complete arses, just those in the mining industry

even though Tinks has taken us on this ride (and from speaking to the squadron capo today who'd just gotten off the phone to Middleby, not over as there's still a few things the FFA have to agree to), I'm still pleased as all get out that I'll have a team next season

reckon I might buy an expensive ticket next season, away from the hoi poloi

when you look at the numbers of players, it's utterly ridiculous that Melbourne has two teams, Queensland had three while NSW had two and NNSW only had the one

NSW has 200,000
NNSW has 50,000

Victoria has 50,000

so you see why it's stupid to think they could let Newcastle fail

Given that Adelaide are sponsored by a brewery, perhaps that's the right team for Liam?

where'd you read that?

that's good for Asian Champions League next year as they don't count towards "international" quota

It was a small clipping in the Courier Mail, while on the other page, there was a two-page spread on a upcoming rugby league fixture...

I was at the game and considering the horrendous conditions I think we turned in a pretty entertaining game and achieved a fair result.

We're inexperienced against Asian teams and it shows... maybe next year.

At least we're playing in Asia, and will be next year too.

He's a free lesson Bessart:

Quote:

A player in the Norwegian fifth division has been sent off for protesting against being awarded a penalty.

Talat Abunima was playing for Sandved against Ild when he went down in the penalty area. He told the local newspaper Sandnesposten: "I went past an Ild player and then tripped over my own feet. It was unbelievably clumsy of me and when the referee pointed to the spot I felt I had to speak out."

The referee Nedzad Munjic disagreed, telling news website VG Nett: "It was a clear penalty. The player got it all wrong – I don't think the players know the rules properly. And when I've blown the whistle, I can't change my mind."

Munjic first gave Abunima a yellow card for protesting. When the 36-year-old continued to argue against the decision to award him a spot-kick, he was sent off.

Rune Pedersen, the head of the Norwegian Referees' Association, said the official could have changed his mind over the penalty but that the cards were warranted. "A referee can change any decision he has taken until the play resumes," he said.

With Sandved leading 3-1, the player-coach Oyvind Svenning took the spot-kick, deliberately sending it wide. "It was the right thing to do," he said.

But the drama did not end there. Ild withdrew a player to make the sides even again and were then awarded two late penalties by Munjic. They converted both to secure a 3-3 draw.

"The guy who missed on purpose complained a lot about the penalty that led to the 3-3 goal," the referee added. "I don't really understand that. First he shoots wide on purpose, then he complains when the other team scores. It's hopeless."

Sandnesposten said the local football authority has now rescinded Abunima's red card.

jaloisi named for heart coach next season, quite interested to see how he goes. I quite liked van't schip and his style of play, do hopefully john keeps going in that direction.

also, kappa confirmed as their kit sponsors. wogs will come a-running, and they will have the best kit in the league if they didn't already.
