Hi all,

Righto, I think that ITM needs a 'Balearic Music' forum. Currently there isn't one place on ITM to post Balearic mixes or discuss Balearic music. There's a forum devoted to clubbing in Ibiza, but no forum for the genre of music that the white island gave birth to. A Balearic dj set can embrace all of the styles currently catered for in the 'All About The Music' forum at once, hence none of those forums is really appropriate for discussion of, or posting of Balearic.

So, I hear you ask, what exactly is Balearic? In the words of DJ Alfredo Fiorito, who spawned the genre in Ibiza, “My definition of Balearic; its a music mostly, eclectic, happy, sexy, not cheesy, that gets its roots in the origins of dance music and flourishes on the dancefloor, as a sound that makes you forget genres, or categories and you just enjoy it, listen to it, dancing and sharing it. Beat poetic, but real!“

To sum up, Balearic is an unusual genre in that it isn't a specific style of music - it's more of a 'feel' and a 'vibe'.

Given it's impact on modern electronic and dance music, it's enormously important though. It's also very much alive and well - particularly in Europe. Check out Todd Terje, Alfredo, Rob Da Bank, Jason Boardman & Moonboots etc. Given Australia's climate and lifestyle/attitude/tastes it's almost perfectly suited to a music savvy audience here.

Seriously, I've kept thinking about it, and I really think that shapeshifting would be the best super power to have.

hmm, not sure.... but I think most superpowers could be achieved with shapeshifting, or you could get close...

Even time travel, you could shapeshift into something travelling faster than light, of course.

Although invisibility would have to be a close second, once you consider all possibilities.

Invisibility is good but has flaws.

yeh it would be good, but you could approximate invisibility by shapeshifting into something small, transparent or just generally inconspicuous.

Have a look at the music subforums, most are ghost townish.. try starting a balearic thread in one of the music sub forums.

Think about it as market research.

Are you saying that what we're talking about is negative? I'd say what we're doing is very positive. After all, nobody here has said a SINGLE BAD THING unless you could count Clock Slander as a bad thing.

You will find a user here and there jumping in and giving feedback about a mix here, or a track there. But you won't ever have an established community of Belladonna fans, let alone enough of one to justify the creation of a subforum.

Flying would have it for me. It has far more recreational value and also some utility in everyday life.

Shape shifting into a bird is almost as good, however you would have to leave your clothes behind every time, and it would be harder to bear weight (e.g. if you want to fly to uni with your backpack)
