You would hope that Microsoft are holding their aces until next gen and riding out the successful IP's they can bank on until they are ready (current economic climate also would be playing a factor on this, limit your risk as much as possible). In the same breath, if you continue to milk the same franchises, you run the risk of becoming stagnant and people lose interest.

Surely Sony will not show anything next gen. I would be amazed if they did. The timing is just not right.

The Nintendo conference is easily going to be the most interesting, I want to see real world performance.

Ultimately, it’s a competitive market. Sony and Microsoft both want to make more money, and sooner or later one of them will see $$$ and the other has to react. Both companies wanted to drag this cycle out to maximise profits, but Sony’s relatively poor performance with the PS3 has probably protracted this. Microsoft were happy to sit pretty so long as they were the leading platform, and Sony has to wring enough life out of the PS3 to make it a profitable venture. But Sony won’t be overly satisfied with losing their market dominance. They’ll want to take another punt.

IMO Sony are in a great position, they announce their next gen and automatically everyone is talking about it. Their share price could obviously use the boost too.

I will be suprised if they don't, it would be a wasted opportunity.

Criterion are good at the street racing/semi open world thing, but I'm not liking the straight up re-hashing of old titles... Considering I've got NFS MW that only came out 3-4 years ago on 360, I think its too soon to be rehashing.
