Saw some traffic on Facebook for this event - looks pretty cool with an electro-tinged lineup (but also some techno and trance). Wondering where the venue will be (maybe one of the empty buildings along Northbourne)?

Underground most likely means it's literally underground, nothing to do with the lineup, obviously......

Project means it's most likely a school project, like a diorama or a poster or a paper mache sculpture... or moist likely, it could just be the name of the promoter's first project.

3 rooms (done before multiple times) with the same djs that have been playing for years.

Stage, lights, DJ, audience.

Well if making random comments about the about a gig that's not as unique as you stated dosent make you feel good, so yeah, knock yourself out with them kittens.

It's a bit different in the sense that there hasn't been a big 3 room party for a while now.

It's different in the fact that it's a new venue that hasn't been used, has a new mixture of talent (even if there are many old faces) and will hopefully have that rave vibe - $25 is heaps cheap for something like this, should be a blast.

Different because they say its different? No scene politics yet they have seem to have a dj from each political group on the lineup? The format? the what seems to be 30minute dj sets? played by the same djs you see every week? each loking to get the crowd going and have the best set so they all play bangers? Underground? Tranist bar is underground.

What would be different would be seeing an event where the those djs and their friends turn up to something without having a timeslot. Now THAT would be different. (and no, i am the best brown-nosing at the start of a dj set doesnt count as going to a gig). Canberra is small, people generally grow up with a "our school group" vs 'their school group" mentatility.

The canberra scene is as follows:

Learning EDM as a teenage while pinging off your head. Good times, good memories. Then people either become involved in the politics because it gets dull and they want to make a change to recapture their past. Or they stop going out and return to pinging at house partys where they can control the music. Or both!

Its a joke. i get flooded with facebook invites from certain people who i never go out but to support their groups "dj". Or say they are going to events just because they are part of a political party, and dont infact turn up.

Canberra is THAT small that these kind of things have an effect on the overall scene. maybe instead of needing to play a gig to go out, these djs put their heads together and bring their house-partys to civic. Shit, wouldnt that be a great idea for a club? you can chillout in the lounge room, or head upstairs to musically themed bedrooms that dont give the DJ anywhere to hide. Each room plays a genre all night without being able to repeat a record for a whole month. Bathroom themed room could be a chillout area. Dusty, old floorboards give the place some charactor.

Canberra doesnt need ANOTHER event. It needs a grass roots approach to build a scene and places people WANT to go on a weekly basis.

How many years we have tried to do take the grass roots approach only to be stepped on by the owners of the clubs/bars. You want to create something unique in this town, find someone with so much bankroll they dont give a fuck about loosing a few bucks here and there and you might be in with a fighting chance. Until then, there will never be a solid non commercial and consistent scene. At the end of the day, money talks and believe me, according to the bankers there is NEVER enough.

The only decent parties in Canberra as of late are doofs and even they have political problems.

Biggie's got a point here. Being able to consistantly do underground events and pay for them can very hard in a city with few venue options.

And factions/groups do form - when you work with certain people (DJ's, promoters, even venues) it will often mean that you won't be able to work with others based on past history between those different groups. In a place like Canberra that's so small it can really divide things, as there's not enough people so support everything.

As for weekly events, the scene isn't quite there yet - the festival bubble has burst, but we're not quite back to weekly clubbing yet.

The doof scene is a bit less politcal, but it's certainly there when you start getting to the bigger events... However, I do like the fact that after you've been to a few you always see the same faces (and of course new ones each time) - it builds a sense of community.

If there was an event to actually bring the scene together you'd have a different crew running each room... Still, anything different to just the same venues each week will be welcome.

Any Techno at this event? Sorry don't live in Canberra and only familiar with a few of the guys playing.

The promoter needs to put a leash on their assistant (Nisha), her ridiculous attitude on FB has no doubt already turned a few people off

Im gonna be playing to the name... underground techno with splashes of D'n'B....

I'm on the 4th stage now, so I'll be playing techno (and maybe some psy..)
