alternately do your C++ in Code::Blocks with mingw if you're a big fat faggot freetard

Good shit Sherlock. Python it is. One of the guys at work is starting to learn Python next week too actually.

Technically it's support for a small IT reseller, but we do all the system admin stuff on top. My offtime is actually better spent learning Sonicwall configuration backtoback if I was serious about my job, but I'd prefer to learn a language just to get my mind working in a different way than it has been the past few years.

If you are seriously getting into the devops space, and want to actually code, there are some things

(1) Learning C# or C++ is pointless, because the big end of town where these languages are used the most, still look for degrees

(2) C is still the best, most powerful, most flexible language you can learn. It, unfortunately, has a bit of a learning curve and punishes you severely for bad habits and mistakes.

(3) Most of the frameworks that stick their tentacles into other systems with a sysadmin focus (ie. Icinga, Nagios, Zabbix, ControlTier) tend to favour (or at least make it easier) to work with shell script, perl (or ruby with perl extensions, or ruby (gems), or java (possibly built as a standalone jar based off ruby), or C.

(4) It would be worth your time and energy learning how to ANT

(5) Ignore everything above

no. where do you have to work?

actually, it is near the Pumphouse.

But still, Darling Harbour sucks. Stay at the Kirketon. Trust me on this. http://www.eaudevie.com.au/Sydney/

Definitely stay in Darlinghurst (Kirketon or Diamante). Easy Taxi access out the front, straight onto the harbour tunnel, kings cross station 5 minute walk to train, excellent breakfast options at the cafes outside, lots of good places to go at night either locally or a short walk up to Surry Hills. Kings Cross late night strolls for the lols. 20 minute walk to the local taphouse sydney version. Superb speakeasy out the back, free wifi, and funky funky hotel.

There was nothing to do with multi dimension arrays in the VB course iirc, mostly loads of interaction with Access databases. The major project at course end was to create some kind of shitty accounts software package.

I should brush up on VB and start creating some fully hectic apps for WP7

you should make a clone of Oregon Trail but instead of Oregon you're moving closer to the exchange
at the start you must choose how much to spend on different starting equipment, ie. number of WoW accounts etc
and instead of dysentery you die of diabetes

sure, but the right tool is never an Access database - if doesn't even support transaction logging. It's the "she'll be right mate" database where you don't care if you lose everything ...

I had a dream that I went to an overpass I used to live near, and at the top of the bridge it dropped straight down Escher-Inception style, then I realised there was an ocean down there and we were there because my car had sunk and we had to drag it out with a big red rope, because I needed the car back because someone was buying my van from me at a massive profit, but we couldn't get my car out of the ocean. Then there was a garage sale at my dad's or something and there were these horrific half-ape people there, and I was raging because they were breeding contrary to the laws of nature but everyone else seemed to be drinking tea and avoiding the issue.
