Have done that, I don't think it's a problem with the amount of traffic, it's to do with it having a shitload of small files opened/locked causing iowaits.

cat /proc/net/rpc/nfsd | grep th

the first field will show you how many threads you are currently using

then you can change that in /etc/sysconfig/nfs (on centos or redhat like machine)

then restart nfs

edit: the config option is RPCNFSDCOUNT

Cheers - yeah - I found that in the end. Didn't actually change it, but added it to my list of shit for 'them' to try - don't own this box at OS level.

yo, gruso et al... doing a favour for a family friend and researching laptops for them. their current one is 8 years old and dying a slow death so i said i'd help out as they are a 60+ couple who know very little about computers and were gonna go to harvey norman for advice... nuff said.
Price range is approx $500, with the aim of getting something that will last a decent amount of time given the lifespan of their current laptop. I found this one on CPL, seems pretty decent specs for the price (more ram and better graphics than the ones i saw on JB, comes with MS office as well).

I'm not up with laptop hardware these days but it looks pretty decent. If not, any suggestions on good ones based on the sub-$500 price range?
