After moving on from his running involvement with Darkbeat, as well as deciding to DJ solo away from his highly successful 8 years stint as a part of Rollin Connection in 2012, Darius Bassiray made the decision to form his own event ‘electric owl’ - a party which is breathing some much needed life in the Melbourne scene, hosting fresh and innovative acts such as Move D, Fred P, Moodymann, Roman Flugel, Martin Buttrich & Lusine in 2012 alone.

He formed a LIVE outfit in 2012 with Paul Beynon under the guise Text Book Music, which is also their record label. The two have quickly earned the respect of their peers with the debut performance at world renowned KUBIK, and many other Melbourne shows, and soon to be internationally and interstate.

Surprising many, the sets have been totally the opposite of what many expected, abstract and forward thinking, the ethos of their label with dynamic house, glitch broken beat, electronica through to deep techno all within a LIVe set. The way in which these sets are presented are totally unique to the pair through innovative programming that breaks the boundaries of how a live set is constructed, with total improvisation and on the fly live keyboard work and beat arrangement, each set and its tracks are presented totally different on any given night.

Opting for the quality over quantity approach to music, Text Book Music has released 4 EP’s from artists such as Chris Fortier, Habersham, Darius Bassiray, Rob Dowell, Paul Beynon and Stuart Mckeown, all attaining praise from world class tastemakers, being played and charted by artists as diverse as Gabriel Ananda, Richie Hawtin, Maetrik, Magda, Pheek, KiloWatts, Slam, Terry Francis, DAVE The Drummer to Silicone Soul.

Bassiray is just about to drop two more singles on the label with confirmed remixes from the likes of Jay Tripwire, Deep Child, Nadja Lind and many more. Whilst Beynon will be dropping a solo EP soon on the label, the pair have also been commissioned for a remix for Mike Callander album ‘Antarctica’ on Haul Music.

'Following on from her passion for forward thinking electronic music, she has collaborated with fellow producer & close friend on the Trinity & Beyond production project. Starting three years ago they have built a highly regarded catalogue of releases on labels such as Beef Records, Haul Music and Manual Music. The duo also have upcoming releases on Lucidflow, Pinksilver, Text Book Music and heavyweight Berlin label Moodmusic.

Dancers in the deep dark dingy hallows of many of Sydney’s undergrounds clubbing nightlife would be accustomed to the melancholic driving melodies that emanate from a DJ set from DJ Trinity. Having been a mainstay in the Sydney music scene for the last 10 years, Trinity has built up a formidable reputation for playing on point, all the time, and without compromise.

Not one to seek fame, fortune, or to follow a fashion, her music eschews an honesty that characterises what a DJ should be, rather than using her feminie wiles to garner attention. Sassy, brooding but with underlying sense of exhilaration that is always contained in a restrained sense that leaves you wondering if she’s been toying with you the whole extent of her set.

As a DJ, Trinity has shared her music at most, if not all venues & underground parties in Sydney, and has been the go to DJ for many warm up / support sets for international artists such as James Holden, Max Cooper and Move D.

Well well, that was a rather fun night. Went with no expectations on what to expect, came out smiling. got there around 11:30 to 12 to Pash and Edoardo ripping it up, perfect warm up, got me in the mood immediately, should say that I went with no friends (to cold whinge whine cold) yet was made welcome immediately, friendly crowd who were well up for it. Trinity's live set was awesome as well, shame won't get to see it again for another 6 months. As for text book music, such a dysfunctional two, no syncing at all yet made it sound so so good, first time hearing them and came away mighty impressed. Couldn't stay for Garth's set, to knackered by then.

Thank you for the kind words Hellbent However, my wee break i was talking about was more around the 2-3 month mark I have learned sooo much playing my last 3 live sets and am feeling a lot more confident to take my live set to the next level with more effects, more chanells and more hopefully some more hardware There's much new material coming out in the next few months also and am very excited about using this in my set too.

Edoardo and Pash Mann had a great little warm up for Trinity who then took us on an amazing little journey (shame it was too short) playing live! Text Book Music has been preparing their live set specifically for Golden Cage which was musically, very diverse and funky! Garth Linton then went on to smash out a great progressive set to finish off the night on a high note.
