absolutely, keen to hear what he brings to the table this time round.. Saved Recs is concentrating on the tech house, but I wonder if his personal taste delves a lil deeper .. Cool review of the new Balance in Onion Mag. Raises an interesting point in first couple of paragraphs about the 'progressive house mafia':

The progressive house mafia are a funny bunch. Aside from taking prog house way too seriously, the crew get their keyboard warrior game faces on whenever a new Balance DJ gets selected who isn’t one of their early noughties heroes. After dismissing techno and house DJ, Deetron, with his superb double-disc Balance 020 last year, the warriors are again venting at the choice to helm this mix, Nic Fanciulli. Bizarre. But just as Deetron’s mix could have opened their eyes to uplifting and FUN club music, Fanciulli’s double disc mix is a joy, showcasing 27 tracks of deep house grooves intertwined over 73 minutes on disc one and his Saved label roster on the second disc. Disc one is where it’s at. The build-up is beautifully controlled and the middle tek house section featuring Joris Voorn’s Spank The Maid, Fanciulli’s own Movin’ On and Pol_On’s Heavy Rain is sublime. The Saved disc has some great tracks but isn’t as successful. The prog mafia might not champion Balance 021 but considering most proggers went deep or minimal five years ago, not much interests them these days.

One of the things I have always liked about progressive (and more recently what may be described as techno) is that it can mean so many different things to different people. In my opinion however, as things get harder to pigeonhole the more progressive they are obviously becoming, because by nature, if something is progressive it should be fluid and moving, and therefore difficult to define. That for me is the beauty of it.

....it becomes pretty clear that progressive is defined not as a certain sound (as it has tended to be post 2000), but rather and approach to putting music together.
