In that case it's one of the Tom Clancy sub games then (Hunt for Red October, Red Storm Rising, etc.) and I've mixed them all up i my head.

Edit: I'm pretty sure it's not Silent Hunter as I remember having to shoot all the ships solely with periscope in that one.

I didn't realise I'd played so many sub simulators.

a hint for the children: it was on C64 but has been cloned/remade a bunch of times for others systems

From about 1997 til around 2005 is a bit of a black hole to me though.

First non pirated game I ever owned for my CGA XT.

One of the worst games ever. The box art dated hilariously though.

that game actually had some strategy in it because you needed to attack supply lines - and the author went on to write SimCity

one of my old school favourites - at the time is was like "wow OMG" because the developer re-wrote the rules on what was possible with colours and scrolling on that hardware
