I do believe the corner bar is back open (street level) but I think the moonbar/middlebar are well and truly gone, private function rooms now i think.

A shame, Empire was my favourite club. A sad loss for everyone.

Thanks guys. Such a shame! I guess the demand isn't there anymore and they probably realised they could actually fill the Family again.

Better to see it (Moonbar) go when it did rather than for it to be revived back and it's reputation destroyed with new (terrible) music policies that have become the norm in the valley.

Although I have had a bunch of dope nights at the moonbar and some great memories I really don't miss the management of the place. The door people there were the biggest nazis in the valley, the amount of times I got turned back due to my kicks was ridiculous (imo I wear great kicks and they were dnb parties)

This. Hold onto those great memories, people. Be glad it's not reopening to ruin them.

I don't think that was an Empire only thing as it was the same at some of the other big clubs too, like Family and The Met.

ill be the judge of that :p

i always thought empire was one of the most laxed places for sneakers, it was everywhere else that was picky. tho they did get a bit hit and miss when they started to cycle thru the door girls. mid 2000s were fine, tho that was when madonna was working and she was awesome

or maybe it was cos you just look scruffy :p

strange, dont really see why you wouldve been bounced with those, seems more of an excuse to reference the scruffyness without hurting your feelings lol or maybe you were shitfaced? lol
never had any probs with my am90s (which are pretty much my clubbing shoe these days), sure theyre chavy but thats kind of my look never had any probs with af1's either, anything with 3 stripes are just too uncomfortable for long periods of standing :p

This is no love song and it serves no use, but if you want to sing along to some verbal abuse
It might make you feel better and it's good for the soul, take four letters and let's rock n roll

While I would say I may have partaken in a few sneaky ones before hitting the venue I think it was a rare occasion that I was in a state before I arrived. I think there was a few particular people who really didn't like me for no apparent reason (bar being a generally scruffy mofo), though it was always satisfying turning up to play dressed like a hobo on dress like a hobo day.

I am pretty sure they had my picture up on the inside of the door with the byline 'plays inappropriately heavy dnb way to early in the night, banned 4 lyfe'

the best bit about empire was if you got kicked out for misbehaving you could often sneak back in via press club.

ahhh, so many fond memories and lack of memories.

Agreed. I liked it best when the good looking dude with the curly fries hair was on the door. That nigga knew who was who in the zoo and was heads and above most of the door scrags they hired after (apart from Madonna).

Which Empire did you used to go to?

The dress code was always one of the better ones, same with the door girls. Some clubs still haven't realised that their security and door fuckwits work in customer service and will have an effect on their business.

Shame about the empire, cant remember a single bad night in the moonbar.

But yeah...if you were getting knocked backed entry at empire...it wasnt because of your clothes.

I was deep in the middle of a massive crowd at the Daft Punk concert at Hyde Park, London in 2007, I look to my right and who do I see... Emmanuel.

He was great. I remember one nite me and my GF at the time were off our heads on acid and not at all impressed when he told everyone lining up they would only be letting members in for the next half an hour. Without batting an eyelid the mrs said to him "whaddya mean, we are members!". He thought about it for a moment and then took us inside and told the chick in the coat room to sort us out applications for membership. You couldn't buy it at Empire like you could at Family, you had to be offered it.

I renewed my membership there every year until I moved from Brisbane, but by that point it wasnt worth the plastic it was printed on.
