Are APRA and AMCOS royalties nessacery?
Well, I contacted them a few days ago - they said I didn't need any of them, because I produced music, not writing the songs. But I make my own stuff, and a friend in the States - who owns a company that sends out music to Fox, theme parks etc - said I should get APRA.

Need more opinions from more people in the industry - some people in here probably already have them.

Do I need APRA, or AMCOS, or none?

Any other information you need to help me, I'll get it for you.

apra is only good if you get lots of radio/tv play or gigs and only then you get money if your music is registered with apra which means filling out a form for all tracks written.. you only get payed from gigs through apra when you file a live performance return form ..

amcos collects royalties from publishing / record companies.. so next to useless if you dont have a publishing deal

So it is basically only worth getting if you are independant, but getting lots of coverage. Makes sense.

you dont have to be independent apra certainly collects royalties for big names on big labels, in fact thats where most of the money goes.. last royalty cheque i got was for about $4.00
