Mobile dj playlist
Sort of new in this game, been a bedroom dj for quite some time, but just a question, do you have a set playlist with cue points etc etc, or just have all your music in folders and choose what to play song after song on the night?

Second option. Read the audience and pick the tunes, real DJs don't pre-plan.
Don't bring all your tunes on usb or CD, bring only 50-100, tunes you want to play on the night, depending on how long you play. It's too overwhelming if you have to select from 5000 tunes

^ Yeah, agreed there...though there is nothing wrong with making "playlists", as a vague guide, a way to group some general tracks which might work together, but in no means should you ever be going to play a set anywhere with a completely set in stone A to B to A to D and so on pre-programmed set.
Pete Gordon - Deep and Low

Slower tempo but still with balls, deephouse, slow-mo, futurehouse, nudeep, indie, nudisco, hints of progressive, whatever the fuck you want to call it, just good shit! Get on it

If it really is "Mobile" DJing you might need a bigger playlists then that. I know when I've done Birthdays/Engagement Parties etc the variety of requests require rather varied playlists..

But for club stuff agreed 100%.

Look up the top 10/100 singles charts of each year and you'll be sorted, google is your friend

Just get online and start investigating classic 70s songs, stuff like 'Now that's what I call Music" which is up to about 150th release, but the lower number ones would have all the popular stuff. If you're working as a mobile dj, you need an eclectic library of music. 50-100 tracks won't do as it's not a club you're playing in. In fact, you're being paid to be able to entertain a widely varying audience.
I find it's easy to categorise music by genre or decade for something like that, or even BPM & Genre so you can make it easier for yourself to mix within the same genre for a while without having to thrown in shitty spin-backs and explosions just to ramp up the tempo between a 90bpm and 126bpm track, etc just to keep it in the same genre.

Other thing you can do is take note of the kinds of requests you get at mobile dj gigs and make sure you go home and get it for next time as chances are you'll get the same kinds of requests over and over.

Lastly, building a vast library of decent music takes time. A long time. And rinsing someone else's hard drive won't familiarise you with what's good or will work. Just have patience and a good ethic for searching and listening to new music as often as possible.

Do not ever consider a 40th/50th/corporate event/wedding and NOT HAVE BRYAN ADAMS "SUMMER OF 69" IN YOUR BAG O TRICKS!!!
