I thought that too unless it's changed recently. I had one about 5 years ago (maybe more) that cost $800 even with a referral. Private covered most of it but still, there wasn't full Medicare cover there.

Just met up with a dude I haven't seen in about 18 years who's now a minor rock star. Dude hasn't had an actual job the entire time, has been a barely functional alco the entire time and is still financially sorted and looks 5-10 younger than me, also banged a hot groupie tonight. ****.

Still, I got door list to a $110 gig so he's not all bad.

YEah that's certainly the best way to go about it. At the end of the day, as along as the person has trained at major hospitals and is practising in a major metropolitan hospital, you'll be fine. The dodgy surgeons tend to be found outside a 20km radius from the CBD.

Makes sense as I needed a hip looked at too but could only get an X-ray on that.

Yup. Total cheesefest of a band but the **** can play.
He's from Wellington originally, I used to hang out with him and another mate who lives on the central Coast now who were in another band at the time.

NFI, I don't exactly keep tabs on what they do, I'm not a fan, I just think he's a funny ****. whenever I see them I think they should be on Idol or X-Factor or something

Their fans are the biggest bunch of neckbeards I've ever seen, figures you were one

Not exactly a fan, I just wanted to see them do their crazy guitar battles. The lyrics to their songs are ridiculous.

trying to get a referral while OS from the GP to book MRI in sydney when I return then off to the GP to collect the result a few weeks later. I doubt I'll have time to see a surgeon as well, but if the prognosis surgery or surgery then I'll need to fly back.

edit: Turns out the GF has 3 orthopedic friends who have offered to look at the results.

I am seeing the benefit to this girlfriend doctor thing. At first it was all, 'no I'm not wearing a doctor gown to bed'

Just get in an accident then you are automatically covered under emergency surgery

I had a nose job, and a fractured patella cleaned out, plus heaps of stitches and like 10 weeks of xrays, and it all cost less than $1000 (also no waiting list)

Also they offered me a free nose job for cosmetic reasons afterwards if I wasn't happy with it, but I declined (even though it is not perfectly straight, i feel it adds character

Pretty good for the public system when you smash your face. I'm suprised emo teens aren't smashing their faces with hammers ...

yeah, no.

you might get the country's best knee man if he's on call at the public hospital or you might get Barry butter fingers who will botch up my knee for life. I think I'd rather do it the way I want it done, with the surgeon I choose, when I want it done.

How do people who have home gym setups like it compared to going to a commercial gym? There's an eBay deal that could get me an oly bar, 115kg of weights and squat stands for $350. Add $50 for some floor matting and I'm good to go for presses, deads and squats. I could add a bench down the line too. Hmm.

$509 for 115 kg of plates, a 20 kg oly bar, 2x25 kg adjustable dbs, squat stand, bench and 2 sq m of rubber matting. With the kettlebells I already own and an ab wheel, I'm pretty much good to go. A pull up/dip station would be ideal, but I don't have room for that at the moment. We'll see.

I'd never go back to a commercial gym, ever. I got a flat bench for $100. Get a sonos too.

I can do dips on my squat rack,if you can get a power rack that's the go.

Yeah, I have no space for a proper power rack unfortunately. I can get squat stands and a flat bench for $180 from a place out west that imports stuff from China. I think I'll do it.

The only issue I could see is that it would make it hard to do accessory work without going to a gym with the full dumbbell, racks and machines.

Well I got:
1 x oly bar
4 x 20kg oly plates
4 x 5kg oly plates
4 x 2.5kg oly plates
4 x1.25kg oly plates
1 x standard barbell
8 x 5kg plates
8 x 2.5kg plates
4 x 1.25kg plates
2 x dumbbell handles
1 x ab wheel

All for $275. I will add two squat stands and a bench for $180 and two square metres of rubber matting for $27/sq metre - so $509 all up. I'd like to be able to do pullups and dips too, but I have a doorway pullup bar and there's some dip bars at a nearby park.

For anyone in Sydney after some kettlebells, the guy has 2x 20kg and 2x 24kg bells on gumtree too.

With slightly more expensive squat stands I can MacGyver a pullup bar and do dips. Aw. Yiss.
