Ikea DJ stands?
I really need a decent stand for my setup (technics X2, pioneer djm, rokit speakers X2) and essentially storage beneath for loads of vinyl.

I've read some post saying the Ikea set-ups are sometimes too flimsy but they've recently changed their range a bit, thats also why I'm not referring to older posts so much.

Any updates/advice on this please!! My vinyl is in plastic boxes right now, it needs to be released...

get a kallax http://www.ikea.com/ms/de_DE/campaigns/expedit_kallax/

only thing you'll need to add is stands for the speakers.....should be at ear level anyway

From memory the new expedit line (kallax) is essentially the exact same thing using less resources so you should be fine. Even on the expedit (i use 3 of the 2x2 models side by side) I wouldn't completely fill each cube with records just to be safe.

A 2 x 4 would be plenty of room to spread your records out depending how many you have.

Mine has 4 sections full of vinyl and never had any issues. Put it up on castor wheels to give it a lil extra height and it makes it perfect for me (177cm tall)

I did feel that screwing into the thin ass MDF to attach the wheels was flimsy, so as I'm moving soon while everything was being packed up, I took the opportunity to liquid nails a 12mm thick piece of MDF to the base then screw into that...some of the original screws had worn lose/lost all purchase, so was a good move imo

Slower tempo but still with balls, deephouse, slow-mo, futurehouse, nudeep, indie, nudisco, hints of progressive, whatever the fuck you want to call it, just good shit! Get on it

Both the EXPEDIT or the KALLAX will do the trick, I'm about to change my setup up home to use one of the 8 square shelves with some 10cm feet for the added height. This is what I'm currently working with, it's a little too short and was looking to get another set of speakers to raise the decks and mixer but now I just want more space in this room so that's why I'm switching -

Here's a shot of mine (big image is big! Imageshack won't let you resize from a free account anymore)...you can just see the extra 12mm piece of MDF on the base for added strength

Mines managed to stay sturdy (with a couple of legs in the middle) with 5 boxes full of records for the last few years. I do live in a bit of fear though.

It was just the screws holding the wheels in place that were iffy, structurally she seems fine, just screws going into like 3mm thick MDF were losing/lost purchase.

This is what I came up with. A Kallax 4X2 with 3X castors attached to bottom (=6 wheels total), castors are from Ikea too, they have a metal bar running across. I didn't have the motivation to reinforce the bottom with wood so I haven't stacked all my records in, it's still the castors that I think need to more heavy duty somehow, but it's all good for now!
